DOES THE JOURNAL BEGIN TO LEAN LEFT? - Just A Minute for Friday 10-31-08

IT’S FRIDAY everybody – and the last one before the curtain comes down on Tuesday…

Well, really - - the curtain has to go up before going down… but the show is *almost* over – we hope. Except with all the intentional messing around with the voter registration – we’re probably going to have a LOT of questions… unless the victory is SO great there is no point in doing a re-count – but I’m not holding my breath on that one.

Monday, it’s election eve… and we’ll probably be best advised to do what one of our Greenville County legislators requested – watch and pray and engage in fasting. Certainly God will have to oversee a modern day miracle if the situation is as the pollsters would have us believe. No doubt the Main Stream Media has already measured the drapes and order the tux for the inaugural ball. But as I heard Barack O himself say: “Don’t get too cocky.”

There are other things going on in this old world besides the election. I know a bunch of Phillies fans who are happy, who have hardly noticed that there’s an election going on. There are engaged couples on the verge of tying the knot who don’t think the election is the most important thing on their horizon… So… Let’s just all have a nice relaxing weekend – go to church and Praise the Lord!

“JUST A MINUTE”

DOES THE JOURNAL BEGIN TO LEAN LEFT?

Just A Minute – I’ve never been a fan of Rupert Murdoch – because I don’t cotton to folks who act like big bullies in either sports or news. Murdoch doesn’t to my personal knowledge belong to the “big bully” class – checking out his history of acquiring major media – I found out he’s regarded among the top 100 wealthiest on the globe so I’m guessing he’s close.

What attracted my attention is the fact the Wall Street Journal, flagship of the Dow Jones Company, hired a left-wing former blogger, Thomas Frank, for its editorial staff. I worry this portends a left-ward lurch in America’s last major daily newspaper.  The Murdoch empire also owns FOX NEWS, The Weekly Standard and possibly some other rightward outlets, but it also signals a leak in the dike which I pray won’t become a major erosion.

What gives me some comfort is finding the Investor’s Business Daily gives every evidence of being able to take up the cudgels if The Journal falters. Conservatives need every ally we can attract in the next four years no matter who wins the Oval Office.
