YOU'RE ASKING ME WHAT? - Just a Minute for 10-21-08

            Howdy Friends –

 

            Late nights make drowsy eyelids… sorry about that.

 

            The theme this week is the ‘bordering on bad’ language the two campaigns are sinking toward as the end draws closer… I think it’s 14 days today.

 

            I’ve read one extreme vulgarity directed at Governor Palin – there are probably more – I just don’t go looking for them. I’m ashamed of America frankly, that we treat one another like this. Perhaps it’s like railing at the wind. Or someone would tell me my Dad was too strict. But I’m very thankful he was like he was. I don’t pretend to be what used to be called a ‘fancy pants.’ (I guess that referred to striped pants and a cutaway coat – but I never had any of those.)

 

            Arrogance, vulgarity, dishonorable conduct – particularly among males – seems to go hand in hand these days – three terrible musketeers. I know, I know culture wars and all that – good manners, a thing of the past. Well… I didn’t start out to deliver a social lecture. But I was taught to open doors for the ladies – and still try to do that… and seat them properly and say “Yes Sir and Yes Ma’m” where it’s called for – and fortunately I also learned to start with the outside silver fork  and work in toward the plate.    

           

            Tis late… and the campaign draws on apace. Right now I’m not in the mood for predictions… besides I don’t think it does much good. What does accomplish what I need is reminding myself the Lord – My Lord – My Heavenly Father is in total control – and I really have nothing to worry about. Dr. Bob Jones Senior used to remind me – and the other students – Even should Heaven turn out not to be what I expected – still it will be a best dream and philosophy to live by – and certainly to die by.

Just A Minute – People ask me where I get the news – The Media Research Center on the Internet is a good source. Google it and you’ll find it’s like getting a drink out of a fire hydrant. Examples:

Joe Biden, is “tired, tired, tired,” of implications Obama is tied to Bill Ayers admitted and unrepentant communist capitol and Pentagon bomber. Joe’s also sure President Obama will be “tested” soon after he attains the Oval Office – “we all need to stand behind him,” says Joe the foreign policy expert, who is angling to be first expert among equals since he was picked (quote) “to help govern, not just to get votes.”

             CBS’s Jeff Greenfield: (quote) "I think the McCain campaign would be perfectly happy to see turnout lower...There's a theory that says 'make the campaign ugly and people won't turn out …’"

             Chris Matthews of Hardball critiques Sarah: (quote) “I'm waiting for the first, but I haven't heard one serious conservative commentator say this was a responsible pick for VP.”

             Chris, I guess you’ve just lost your tingle.
