Howdy…
Well surprising results have come in from yesterday’s “Straw Vote” aimed at the community of Playfair on the ‘Caroliner Line’ where Earl ‘n’ Lester’s Bait Shop ‘n’ Sushi Bar hang out from time to time. It seems the sentiment in that part of the United States tends to be more like Alaska than a large part of the “Lower 48” as we are designated ‘down here.’ You’ll want to be listening in or check the script and audio track links listed below.
For those who pay close attention to ‘micro’ politics perhaps it’s not so surprising. And then the notification of the straw poll was only on one Christian radio station in the upstate SC area which reaches into NC, GA and a little bit of TN… It’s information you don’t get from reading the New York Times – or other major papers for that matter. But there’s a lot going on out there in ‘fly-over’ country as the NY – DC – LA triad media tend to characterize it.
Plus there’s a lot NOT going on that some of us ‘outside the Beltway’ – as the remainder are lumped in together – are quite forgetful of. For instance we hardly are aware of the unintended consequences the various ‘bailout’ solutions may bring. Nor do we feel the pressures that laxly enforced immigration brings except in various isolated and sometimes concentrated areas. Our newspapers import the elite columnists whose stuff we consume and sometimes wonder just why we are deluged with this stuff… but that’s life in
What will be interesting is what our opinions may be of the results we’re creating for ourselves now – when we look back a year from now… or further in the future. It’s foolish to think we’re here in our little comfortable nest all unaffected by the national results that go on about us. I’m thankful for our local and state officials who do pay attention to national trends – as long as we don’t think we have to imitate them. But there’s only so much one can do to shovel off the garbage that gets dumped our way every day through national media… and I’d better stop there… or I’ll be typing all day.
Thanks for reading and paying attention. I’d like to hear from more of you if you feel so moved. It’s good to have an exchange of views… keeps us from getting too sharp and brittle with one another.
Cordially IN HIM<
