AN EXEMPLARY CIVIL DISCUSSION -- Just a Minute for Monday 10-20-08

Great to have you with us today –

I’ve been trying for days for a way to say ‘cool it’ to some of my more hot-headed partisans… on either side of the fence. And today I finally ran over an excellent example of a way for Christians to handle their more ‘wrapped tight around the spindle’ political discussants. It happened back in September… but I just ran across it on the Internet.

You’ll find it below in the script for today’s program. The message I’d like to circulate is – six months to a year from now, no matter who wins the race – the losers on the other side will be saying “See … I told you so. You never should have voted for that rascal.”  Recriminations are always bi-partisan – George W. Bush can tell you a lot about that.

In any case, I’m writing mostly to Christian Bible believers… who would describe themselves as followers of Jesus. Since we’re *all* sinners – some who have not opted for the salvation Jesus freely offers – and some who have – we come from a common stock affected by Adam’s sin.  We live in a world under the present domination of Satan – but which will eventually be ruled by Christ when HE returns to rule HIS rightful kingdom. I’m not making that up – it’s in the Bible for those who will read it.

All that to say, the political race is NOT the most important happening in the Universe right now. If we’re going to fit into the reality of God’s control of the created world, we’ll have to take up HIS perspective, as best we can in our finite beings. And even finite beings have access to the words of Scripture and can know the will of God and His dealing with mankind.

So, in these closing days of the presidential contest… I hope to be able to bring to your attention some of the glimmers of hope – not for mankind, because we know the only redemption there comes through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the Cross – no matter how many may rail against it. But I’d like to see more expressions of mercy and love like those the Lord had for His enemies. After all it is Satan who is the enemy of mankind…not our fellow humans.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

AN EXEMPLARY CIVIL DISCUSSON

Just A Minute – Campaigning soon ends, probably on a bitter note. I’d like to change that and hold up, Lauren Green, Chief Religion Correspondent for FOX network, who had an exchange with Christopher Hitchens – atheist author of “God is NOT Great.”

Ms Green introduced herself after luncheon entertainment of anti-god rants by Hitchens and whose gracious growl was, “What’s the Chief Religious Correspondent of Fox doing wearing a cross?”

Ms Green calmly answered she came to the luncheon as a private person – but added later in the account she has worn a cross most days while on the air and no negative policy or critical remarks from a co-workers.

She writes: “Can I be objective and wear the cross? Yes. My faith demands it. Christians are called to do as Jesus did: to understand, love, and pray for those who not only do not believe as they believe, but also may hate them… I [often] fall short of that mandate, as do other Christians. But the cross reminds us to stay the course. -- So my answer to Mr. Hitchens now is, may God bless you and keep you.”

Bravo, Ms Green.
