WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE GOOD WILL? - For Just A Minute Radio-Blogspot.com-111213

The old saying of “Many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip’.” – Comes to mind.

And that is probably what has happened so far among the candidates on the Republican side of the Aisle in the houses of Congress.

My guess is the ‘old-timers’ are standing around muttering ‘I told you so.’ And it doesn’t make any difference to whom the observation is addressed… in fact it’s more than likely not addressed to anyone, except to the idle reporter who knew it already – and is just waiting around for some new phrase to drop out of the clouds so his editor won’t tell him to ‘spice it up a little bit.’

Since we’ve had such a ‘long long trail a-windin’ – I’d just as soon do without the spicing it up exercise. It wears quite thin… especially when it’s been on everyone’s blotter of things that have to be done for more than a year now.

We can’t seem to do anything rapidly nowadays – except wish we had bullet trains to get us from Baltimore to Washington or vice versa. Just think of poor Benjamin Franklin who had to travel from Philadelphia to New York in the early days of the Republic. Or the poor fellows from down in South Georgia who had to travel by horseback or carriage or whatever else was at hand. It’s hard to imagine nowadays.  And sending letters…. ??? What a languid way to communicate, unless you needed money or help or whatever was plaguing your family.

Someone on the air just a day or two ago was complaining about a 20 minute delay in a traffic pile up on the  Woodrow Wilson Bridge… Well what about a two week or two month delay when crossing the Savannah or one of the other major streams in the South when you were headed south or north.  Ah yes… it’s difficult to comprehend.

As a matter of ‘for real’ facts the last Confederate soldier to die in the “Waw “B’tween Th’ States” was a Lt. Andrew ‘Stonewall’ Jackson Buttram – who passed away after being shot during a skirmish in Alabama two days after the Armistice had been signed in Appomattox Court House Virginia.  Had we had the Internet – or even a working telegraph in those days Lt. A.J. Buttram would have lived somewhat longer quite possibly.  My assumption is he and I are connected via second, third and fourth generation cousin-ships, since my father’s family came from northwestern Alabama… and the census records of the time indicate Lt. Jackson was called “Jack” by his contemporaries. The stories are he was buried where he fell… but later the grave and a monument was moved because it obstructed a road.

Well… now you have learned something for today – except I doubt that a large number of you believe it.  As a matter of fact I had a hard time of it myself until more and more evidence presented itself… But I’ve not had anyone ask for my autograph. (J)

Hope you have a good day… and a great week!

Cordially, In HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE GOOD WILL?

Just a Minute: Yesterday, I said things were due to get calmer.  Looks like the opposite happened. In watching edits, not the real thing, it’s difficult to put in sequence – so we don’t know who threw the first brickbat; but Romney pointed to Gingrich’s record of using his quasi government post with Freddy Mac to make the housing market more unstable than necessary.

Gingrich rejoined, suggesting Romney in his business role, had demolished jobs creating hardship for families.  Not the greatest conversation between candidates to become the next President.

Which is precisely the problem visible from the beginning – we hadn’t sorted out the combatants thennow it’s happening?

Thursday night at 9 PM EST we’re supposed to see a re-match in Iowa – but even then it’ll be confusing -- so if you’re watching or listening, carefully keep your own score.  Don’t be influenced by kibitzers.

There’ll be a lot more screen-shaking to get rid of the rocks and possibly cool down some tempers. You’ll need to pick – that’s required. Just use your best judgment asking the Lord to give you wisdom. It’s part of the process.

          <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
