THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES -- Just A Minute Radio for Tuesday 111206

Now we’re getting closer to the starting line. I know next on the docket is the Iowa caucuses and (shouldn’t that be “are the Iowa…etc?) No because the Iowa pre-election event is singular even though there are a lot of them… something like 1794 to be more exact. They are all being held on the same day and the result will be the vote of the Iowa caucuses… which will be broadcast after they are held on January 3^rd… when THE vote is announced. (Just one… a combined total of all the votes across the state.)

Don’t ask ME how it got done like that. It wasn’t so long ago… I guess the Iowa people just got tired of hearing about New Hampshire all the time. (L) So they did this and it came to THE vote of all the Iowa caucuses… So if you don’t like it… write them a letter. (J)

It’s kind of hard to piece all the contests together… and all the while this ‘redistricting’ is going on too… the result of the 2000 census. That’s *another* singular thing. It isn’t all the censuses … all the census is combined into one single measurement. – oh boy… I know somebody’s going to get upset over that.

Tomorrow we’ll have a little more time to talk about what’s happening out there… and it’ll be interesting to find out.

Well… I had a long session last night that brought me into the wee hours again… so I’m hittin’ the hay. On Wednesday maybe we can talk more about the process that’s getting under way… ponderously!

THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES

Just a Minute: Now we’ll sort out Republican candidates for their GOP nomination. At the moment we’re concentrating on two ‘front runners. Chinese proverb says: --“the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step” – so we’re not using a crystal ball. We do think a careful weighing up the arguments of both Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Romney will be worth careful evaluation before primary voting begins January third.

Mr. Gingrich, yesterday, spent a well-publicized hour before “The Donald” -- of reality TV fame. At present Mr. Trump is not holding himself out as a “King Maker” though accuracy labels him as not being ‘publicity shy’. The current title is ‘reality TV host.’

In 1994, House Speaker Gingrich wrote Contract with America returning the GOP to political eminence. However his presentation of divorce papers to his wife, ill with cancer and reportedly on her death bed, weighed heavily in another scale. Presently, his lead is significant in the Gallup poll as he also seeks endorsement from Mr. Cain who has not yet made up his mind. We’ll add information as needed.
