AIR WE GONNA RIDE OFF IN ALL DIRECTIONS? -- Just A Minute Radio for Wednesday 111214

By the time I’ve heard 12 or 14 debates my head is full of ‘who shot john’ questions.

Probably the question should be who shot Mitt? And why?  The pattern that established itself from the beginning back in the ‘hot’ weather in Iowa STRAW vote time was the normal who gets the most votes – but when it comes to IOWA… and *especially* when it comes to Iowa vs. New Hampshire…. It’s a different contest.

The informal vote commonly known as the Iowa Straw Poll. It was first held in 1979. And it is normally not held when the President is a Republican and thus no one is contesting his candidacy. That, of course is NOT the situation this year. Actual voting this year has been moved up to the first available day in January – thus upsetting the normally FIRST primary which heretofore has traditionally been the primary in New Hampshire. So January 3rd was finally settled on last fall. And for a while the schedule was in a jumble until ‘good sense’ prevailed and Iowa’s primary is first on the 3rd

So if you think you can figure it out go to it. The Ames STRAW POLL is generally confused with the Iowa Primary… and I’m going to stop trying to explain it there. Because there are over 1700 precincts in Iowa and each one *can* have a say… and even when the ‘official tally’ comes up this year in January… it apparently has a lot of leeway in compiling and reporting results so if there’s a contest it’s sort of a ‘Florida’ type figuring out who gets to be delegates to the national convention.  I’ve read over the way convention delegates are selected and given up.

Generally – according to Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia who keeps close track of these things – Iowa is one of the last states to determine officially who the delegates are in its delegation to the national convention which ‘officially’ selects the national nominee.  As crazy as things are going to be in 2012 – there will be much confusion. (IMO)… but who knows.

With the non-contesting contest going on in the early campaigning between NH and IA… then comes SC… then comes FL… who knows what will happen. It’s probably worse than the campaigns between the Russian Georgia and the rest of Russia. There is no formal USSR there now… So they too are in a tangle.

BUT… it’s part of democratic rule… it’s messy and not readily put to bed by a Supreme Court decision because there are three (COUNT ‘EM – 3) equal and separate branches of our government…. Executive, Legislative and Judiciary…I leave you to sort all that out … get your own lawyer! (J)

So I think Christians have the best of all worlds… we don’t know any better than you do – BUT we *know* the ONE who does know how it will come out and we are trusting in HIM – who made everything in the first place – and HE not only knows but holds everything together.  [Well… that leads us off into another real and spectacular line of doctrine (teaching… not Federal Laws) which does the real controlling by God’s grace.]

So… since there aren’t enough hours in the night to explain it – even if I was skilled and learned enough to tackle it…I think we’d all better sleep on it. I’m first!

Cordially, IN HIM
