JERRY BROWN PAINTS HIMSELF IN THE CORNER -- Just A Minute Radio for Friday 110624

We cannot seem to get our fill of “exuberant” weather!

Night before last about dusk we had a windstorm that knocked out quite a few patrons’ power. In our case it managed to fill both front yard and back yard with leaves and limbs – enough to get me to retrieving our chain saw and other cutting tools to see if we can clean up the trash under these trees that seems to grow and get thrown down from ‘on high’ so often. (We will have loaded the little green pickup with three or more loads of debris when this is all over.)  The blessing is: although the showers have been quite heavy at times and widely scattered – we seem to be easing our way out of the drought that seemed to be developing rapidly.

Thankfully we have had ‘showers of blessing’ in the rain even though sometimes and places it was accompanied by hail. One nearby church had several cars damaged to the amount of 3-4 thousand dollars of repairs required to restore them to respectable looking vehicles. It also damaged my ‘pet’ hibiscus bush… the one which had been blooming quite well after being coaxed through the winter and had put forth several large and beautiful blossoms.  Now it has lovely foliage… albeit rather tattered from the hail… but the ice pellets seem to have damaged its spirit because no more blossoms have presented themselves in the past couple of weeks.

Well… the world goes on. Today’s program sees the California Legislature getting angry at a bill it passed on itself – and the Governor (Jerry Brown) got upset with them passing such a patchwork of gimmicks to try and sew together a budget to let the State continue limping along. Since the CA legislature controls both houses and the Governor’s office… it’s hard to see how they have anyone but themselves to blame for the fiscal quandary in which they find themselves. That it is a mess is indisputable. That it is a Gordian Knot of their own making is likewise.

However, I will give them this… No one is engaged in ‘blaming the other party’ for the current mess they’re in. The “buck stops right” here is the theme song of the Gold Rush State’s Sacramento shenanigans. Nobody else to blame.  Perhaps the people of California, not wanting to continue to be “Peck’s Bad Boy” among all the states will perhaps before long shame itself into respectability and bring its house to order.  We certainly hope so.

Meanwhile, of Jerry Brown and the fix he is in with his party in his state – headed by people he advocated… well… the only think I can think of to write is: “It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving guy!”

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

JERRY BROWN PAINTS HIMSELF IN THE CORNER

Just a Minute: Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown, vetoed the budget put together by the state’s Democrat controlled legislature. It was gimmicky with various accounting tricks and tax hikes (forbidden by the State’s constitution), just to close the gap. But the Dems forgot one thing… they had written a law also that forbade paying legislators’ salaries if they failed to pass a budget by the deadline of June 15.

Anger welled up and Democrats accused Democrats. Typical mix-up for the ‘Golden State.’ So the Democrats leaders jumped all over the Democrat controller Johnny Chiang for stopping their paychecks. Why the nerve of the guy! Mr. Chiang announced he will obey the law they passed. .

The Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, had warned the legislators the budget was risky. Democrat legislators complained in the Sacramento Bee – a very liberal newspaper – they were being ‘treated like children’ and that other controllers and officials had approved it before… Why were California Democrat leaders suddenly acting like adults?

I know… blame it on “global warming.”<>I’m Jack Buttram. (end)
