CHAIRWOMAN DEBBIE DISSES THE GOP -- BIG TIME! -- for JUST A MINUTE Radio - Friday 110617

We’re still amazed at the damage our ‘tornado’ did last evening.

It appears that a quite strongT-storm, stormed through part of Taylors SC last evening. The biggest damage seemed to be to individual trees – and it knocked out power through the whole neighborhood… I’m assuming a neighborhood served by one substation.

Still it was a considerable area of territory but not occupied by much in the way of commercial real estate – mostly homes. About two blocks from our house, what appears to me to have been a pretty big, and outwardly healthy, oak tree (probably red oak… that’s much of what grows around here.) caved over in a front yard, took out a residential supply line that crossed “Strange” road… and because it was dark I assumed it was the short circuit that resulted from that tree taking down some wires… I thought it had pulled the trigger on the substation. But now that I see how extensive the tree damage was I’m just guessing it was lots of wind – perhaps what the wx bureau calls straight line winds.

There was a fair amount of rain I think… but no flooding at least none I heard about. Possibly a mile to ¾ of a mile away there was major commercial property – but not many trees… they stayed bright… but the neighborhoods were dark.

We came home from a family gathering and the wx was OK… on our route… we had seen some wind tossing the trees about something like 5-6 miles from where we live… but we didn’t expect to come home to find it dark. However… it was!

We tracked down our lone kerosene lamp… the wick seemed dried out a bit… I had never experienced that… but I’m guessing last time we used it we let it burn low and that sort of created a ‘cap’ on the wick… it was hard to get lit. But there would have been fuel there enough for several hours. And of all the aux light sources we had (electric lanterns and other flashlights and candles…) it gave forth the most.

I scoured around for some new “D” cells for a very week flashlight… and I have one of those super-duper billy-club type lights… that’s very good and bright… plus a couple of others… And I had to replace the 9V battery in the storm warning radio. I had done that last winter for the SW/multi band unit that we use for regular listening and alarm clock in the bedroom… so all in all I guess it was a good exercise in ‘being prepared.!’

We went to  bed about midnight… since I had not prepared the JAM script or recording etc. – expecting to do that later in the evening… I was a bit up the creek. … but had figured out a way to do it… and If I was located where Fenton & Marie Angell are – about another five miles out of town I probably would have had to scoot over to the radio station… 4 miles or so… to record it in the earlier part of the morning. But nobody at the station at night to talk to about it.  Automation… Whew!

Anyway… the lights came on about 3AM – for maybe 5 minutes… then off… for maybe 20-30 minutes… then OK for the rest of the night… The storm had stopped probably about 10 PM… most of the loose limbs etc. had fallen before we had come home. Emma was in the garage OK… Perkins was with Kim came home later.

Well… that’s the diary… exciting night… but we managed to write the script and record before 8:30 next morning.. and all seems OK…

EXCEPT I’m getting a signal that the external HD is not backing up… don’t know why? – Work on it tomorrow.

Have a great Friday… and an excellent weekend… with the Lord.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

CHAIRWOMAN DEBBIE DISSES THE GOP – BIG TIME!

Just a Minute: Michael Steele, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee – was known for his many gaffes. But the Democrat’s new Chairwoman may exceed him.  She’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz; New DNC Chair in office less than a month, already has Republicans gathering “The Collected Sayings of Chairwoman Debbie.”

“Politico” a leftish blog, asked her to speak at a breakfast last week where she said: "We own the economy… We own the beginning of the turnaround, and we want to make sure that we continue that pace of recovery."

          “Recovery?...What recovery?”

“The economy,” she said, "has turned around" since President Obama took office.”-- Then she charged the GOP with wanting to “literally to drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and… very transparently [to] block access to the polls [for] voters who are more likely to vote Democratic …  And it's nothing short of blatant."

On Medicare she charged: “…they want to throw you to the wolves… They’ve declared a ‘War on Women’ if it were up to the GOP “we would all be driving foreign cars.” – Apparently she does.

Wonder where she parks her spaceship? <> I’m Jack Buttram (END)
