These summer mornings are quite nice – enjoyable.
The afternoons… especially the late afternoons around 4:30 forward… not so sure. Yesterday we had thunder… and some sprinkles… not enough to do us good just enough to make us wonder if we did right in not bringing the BIG umbrella. Is it going to be a frog-strangler… or can we get by with a light sprinkle? The heat builds and the humidity… I find mornings better for walking the dog.
For the flower and vegetable gardeners… it’s hard to tell, unless you’re part farmer and realize every year is not the same. Some years the tomatoes do better… some year the beans especially the runners. Some years the peaches—you can just hardly wait till the free stones come in … or you can’t get over the
I guess that’s part of the attraction to growing things. To see if you can make it come out a little better this year than it did last year.
Is the same thing true of politics? Well one thing’s for certain we have shorter growing seasons in agriculture than we do in politics. There are folks out there who are already writing off 2012 and setting their sights on 2016… not 2014 but 2016… already at the next set of Presidential conventions and all that goes with that.
I’m afraid I’ve sort of lost interest in that… at least in the long-range view. I’d rather not hear anything about it for a while…. Let it sneak up on me. Give me a chance to enjoy the grandchildren and even the great grandchildren whose names and birthdays I can’t keep track of.
Well… that’s creeping off into family matters – and everyone’s family is different. I think we ought to think of our world that way. Seasons come and seasons go but the family goes on for a long time… and we’re blessed if we can be involved in it a lot.
I guess I’ll stop my little commercial there… I need to work on our family album – and the monthly newsletter. Do you do that I try but other things get in the way. Don’t let them get in the way… get in the way yourself. You’ll be a great help to those kids and grand kids… and even the great grandkids if you take the time to write down some of the things you now know – you wish you had known then. Even include a few pictures and observations.
It makes fun for everybody. Got to quit now… time’s running out for today… after 11:30… the brain turns into a pumpkin at 12 – at least it feels that way.
Love you all… drop me a line sometime.
God bless you all – IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”
DO FLAKES MAKE FLUKES OFTEN?
Just a Minute: Generally I hear FOX NEWS Sunday afternoon coming home from church – I almost drove off the road when Chris Wallace asked Michele Bachmann if she was a ‘flake.’ What a stupid ungracious question; just plain well… dumb.
Most people won’t remember Chris’ father – Mike – who was a ‘terror of the airwaves’ in the 50’s and 60’s. He owned a terrorist’s reputation for asking the ‘357 Magnum’ question which could blow most interviewees out of their shoes. My advice, in the ‘Goldwater Days’ was: ‘Don’t even go in the same studio with him.’
Chris’s father had a reputation of shooting for the tenderest spot – I marked it down as sadism – but it earned him a living, and a reputation that still lingers. This recent ‘flake’ fluke by Chris, is proof heredity sometimes embarrasses us. Chris has apologized to Mrs. Bachmann, and did it right away. I also think he did her campaign a favor – because she handled the challenge so well – and came out of it much stronger. I’m glad, and wish her continued success. I hope she doesn’t have to go through that kind of ‘cold-fish-in-the-face’ moment again.
