I DON'T WANNA BE HAPPY -- I JUST WANNA BE LOVED! -- Just A Minute Radio for Friday 110301

Well here we are on a Tuesday – and I don’t know about your situation… but we had ‘tornado warnings’ here last night... and supposedly there was a tornado that came near a local lake called ‘Lake Robinson’ earlier in the day… There was a LOT of wind and the whole day seemed to be fittin’ for a fight…

But things eventually calmed down… but when those fronts (be they cold or warm or in-between…) When they want to move… they’ve got some heavy winds behind them and they CAN MOVE.

It’s those winds that get caught up in the moment… trying to ‘show off’ as it were… and they go at it like a puppy chasing it’s tail.  From the people who chase storms like that and record the info on their cameras and in some cases on their wind and range instruments – and that means the rest of us don’t have to go out chasing around the countryside.

I suppose it’s a hobby – like bird watching… (Although they now prefer that it be called ‘birding’…) or collecting stamps… or ham radio or.. well you get the idea. One of our friends told me at our Monday morning meeting he’d been up in Rutherford County fishing… for trout.  Now that’s a hobby some folks really enjoy.

Anyway… looks like we could have some folks with a hobby of say, breaking up riots and disruptions. OTOH… that might mean you were in the business of collecting black eyes… or other physical harm.  Anyway… no harm in praying the political season becomes more pacific… (Is that the right word to use in this location?)  I suppose it is.

Well… on ward into the week. I had written in my diary (I keep one most sporadically.) about two years ago we had a six inch snowfall on March 1.  I suppose you can more accurately get that kind of information from the Weather Bureau… but in a way it’s sort of like stamp collecting isn’t it… you remembered it… and you noted it correctly.

Got to sign off for today… Great to have you in here reading our stuff… we’d love to have some thoughts from you.

Cordially, IN HIM

 “JUST A MINUTE”

I DON’T WANNA BE HAPPY – I JUST WANNA BE LOVED!

Just a Minute: -- Politians, when they hit a tough issue like the budget, usually punt.

We were here in ’95-’96 when Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich played “chicken” with the budget.  Democrats muffed the ’94 mid-terms.  Gingrich’s “Contract with America was described as high-handed.

Clinton said Gingrich was keeping people out of work. Gingrich and Dick Army, continued playing ‘hardball’ – and the Speaker started a 1998 fade-out and still suffer it.  Obama, like Clinton in ’88, now holds the ‘bully pulpit.’

However the first term President lacks years of handling himself. His campaign keystone was “CHANGE” - writ large!  But so far his accomplishments have holes, like: Rock-solid un-employment figures; A Big-time bitter tasting two thousand page health care bill; Fiscal craziness like “Cash for Klunkers.”

Now he casts himself as the “Master Compromiser” but so far is an untried quantity. Chris Cillizza, the Washington Post’s ‘fixit’ writer says: “Shutdown amounts to a political high-wire act without a net.”  So Cillizza bets a shutdown won’t happen.  -- I think he’s probably right.
