Finally the last shot has been fired (for now) the wounded and dying are scattered over the field and taps is sounding.
When you say it that way it sounds downright sad… and if you go on a while you become ‘nostalgic’ for the good old days… of fighting and what goes next… and clinging to hopes rather than plans.
But that’s an altogether fakey way to live. One of the most fascinating accounts of ‘ordinary living’ is found in the last chapter of the New Testament book of The Acts of the Apostles. St. Luke… traveling on a ship in the Mediterranean Ocean at a time like this… approaching winter… was trapped in a sailing vessel that ultimately shipwrecked on the Isle we call Malta today. It’s a fascinating story… corroborated by sailors who have sailed those very waters and plumbed the ocean floor as it grows more shallow guarding the rocks rimming the small island. Every time I read it, I get a feeling – never quite put away from childhood – of being a sailor enjoying and enduring ocean adventures. Read it… it’s not long just the 27th chapter and it will transport you “lands away” – for a while you can accompany Paul on his adventure to carry the Gospel to
Well… I’m off on another rant – but The Word of God is exciting with all its ramifications and in this case, miracles.
We’ve just come through a tempestuous storm – and we’re not to the home port yet. God isn’t finished with us yet if you’re still breathing. So take heart, read the account of how Paul convinced the crew and his fellow prisoners to commit themselves to the waves – and HE brought all of them ashore miraculously -- God intended for Paul to carry the Gospel to Rome – and Satan stirring up a mighty storm… and causing the captain to forego his customary caution at that time of year – brought them through a series of events that doubtless spoke to many hearts – over two hundred men on that ship – and who knows how many are in Heaven today because of Paul’s faithful witness in a time of storm. Read all about it – enjoy the moment – and live vicariously for the Lord in the power of the Spirit of God.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack
