Here ‘Tis Friday again! I thought it would *never* come…
But we were not made to live weekend to weekend. “Every day is a new beginning…” says the poet… and then … silence. So if we look to God – HE will fill in the blanks.
Today, in a light mist -- it was the soft dropping of the tulip poplar leaves. They are often the first to go yellow and then fall. Today I saw one that flew down in a lazy spiral like a paper airplane launched from the treetop. Moments like this are all too fleeting – especially when we’ve got conflict about markets and three hanging-chad senate races – yammering and hammering. And, yesterday I heard Mike Huckabee’s going out to Iowa to look over his chances for four years from now… Somebody please throw him a rope. The man’s drowning in politics. And today it was raining… but shortly it quit with just a touch of sunshine.
Well, I know folks -- well intentioned – but often they arrive at unintended consequences. Some days I feel so ‘out of it’ – so I think any consequence must have been unintended.
My sweet dog – Emma Lou – suddenly impresses me as one of the wisest of God’s created beings. “All things bright and beautiful – the Lord God made them all.” She has taken not the slightest notice of our concerns about elections or global warming or where shall we find next month’s rent? I just finished an auto- biography of a well known entertainer. The person is well-known and seemingly happy and well adjusted; but there’s an unintended consequence in the central activity of that person’s life – and not a clue as to whether it’s been handled well or if it was a crisis or whatever. It’s like seeing a sculpture but it turns out to have a blank side… it can only be mounted against a wall or in an alcove – it’s incomplete. Unsatisfactory.
Lord, let us be complete – Complete in You!
Have a blessed week-end.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”
HERE COME THE COACHES
JUST A MINUTE: It’s the first time in 32 years, Democrats got above 50 percent of the popular vote but suddenly we’re inundated with pundits and professors lecturing Republicans on how to rebuild the party – failing to notice they’ve gotten the cart before the horse. Our side lost by following their advice.
A local poly-sci professor says we curmudgeons need to tell folks what we’re for not what we’re against. Of course we need to restrain spending and be responsible for our actions. Candidate, Obama promises he will (quote) …”take all necessary steps” to do that – he just doesn’t tell us what they are. He wants us to have good public schools but heretofore enrolled his kids in expensive
Those who lecture us on rebuilding the party fail to notice we just lost this election essentially by running the candidate they picked. David Brooks, New York Times ‘House’ Republican is quick to tell us we made a mistake – yet he avidly backed the pro-gay-marriage Proposition 8 in
If it’s all the same to you, I’ll look for advice from another source.
