We had some rain here late last night… I think it dampened my brain… but we’ll proceed.
It’s distressing to see some of the folks we’d like to think better of, start sliding off the path and getting into the brambles. Such has been the case with both Mr. Perry and now Mr. Cain.
It’s not exactly an unknown to me, since I have been involved in some campaigns dating back to the ‘60’s – and even sometimes voting for people I would rather have -- well let’s say “had another choice…” but – the wheels of government often turn slowly – and sometimes we have to await the proper results.
One thing, however, we – as Christians – may be assured of: God is in control. When the Bible points out in Colossians 1:17 “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” – Other Biblical scholars say it can be translated “hang together” for ‘consist.’ [A parallel meaning is in John 17:5 where Jesus spoke the words to his Heavenly Father of the glory which they share as deity which Jesus describes as … “the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” ] And there are many other points at which we see the Father, Son and Holy Spirit being involved in the creation – coming together – of the world.
All this merely to note that God is in control of even the little things… like primary elections. So we don’t have to worry about the Lord not getting it right when it comes to putting up some – or taking down others. Daniel the prophet explained to King Belshazzar – this is the
So – back when JFK got the nomination and was elected President – and I thought the sun might not come up next morning… I learned God IS still in control. He determines who shall be our President and who will stop being President. The same is true today—and we may *fully* trust HIM. So despite some of the seeming detours we get into when it comes to our government – and we know some things (like abortion) are NOT what God wants. But in HIS wisdom and HIS perfection – He is in control and we need not be troubled when we think otherwise. There will come a day when we will understand.
Friends – be confident and do not be discouraged. God is still on the throne tho Satan may thrash about. God is triumphant NOW. And Satan knows it!
Well… time to put away the old soapbox till Monday… See you then. God bless you all.
Cordially, IN HIM

. “JUST A MINUTE”
TRUTH AND PERCEPTION ARE OFTEN MIXED
Just a Minute: I’ve sometimes been involved in campaigns getting hard knocks. The advice I normally give clients is: “Don’t spar on the opponent’s turf – generally you get hurt.” It’s far better to let him dig his own hole. He won’t know when to stop. Unfortunately the hired campaign ‘experts’ usually have neither the experience nor wisdom to understand.
Such is the conflict between Mr. Cain and Mr. Perry. It’s fought on stony ground -- both will suffer. Witness the Thompson/Giuliani conflict four years ago – McCain won the nomination. Cain’s chief-of-staff says Perry’s a desperate candidate trying to steal the nomination. He singles the leak’s source as a former Cain staffer from an unsuccessful 2004 Georgia Senate race.
The problem of going down that path is -- there’s no end to it --, demonstrated by the sudden appearance of a third accuser. The mud fighting gets worse. Too bad the battle’s already joined -- hand-to-hand fighting gets both sides bloody.
Our responsibility as Christian observers and voters is to pray for our country AND ourselves. <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
