I deeply regret the events coming out of the Middle East – particularly
So we had to bump THE LANDING OF THE PILGRIM FATHERS off the air so we could bring a prayer request for peace in the
It happens… and in this instance created a glitch in my computer so involved I could NOT change it no matter how hard I tried. That’s why I say these confounded machines sometimes have a will of their own – from which they may not be separated! (L) ‘Tis Spooky as well as frustrating.
However, we survived getting that on the air (I hope) and so tomorrow right here on the JUST A MINUTE BLOG we’ll have another surprise.
Meantime – so you won’t feel (as I do) deprived from getting to visit with the Pilgrim Fathers… here’s a print out version of the complete poem by Ms. Hemans

LANDING OF THE PILGRIM FATHERS
by: Felicia Dorothea Hemans (1793-1835)
On a stern and rock-bound coast,
And the woods against a stormy sky
Their giant branches tossed;
And the heavy night hung dark,
The hills and waters o'er,
When a band of exiles moored their bark
On the wild
Not as the conqueror comes,
They, the true-hearted came;
Not with the roll of the stirring drums,
And the trumpet that sings of fame;
Not as the flying come,
In silence and in fear;
They shook the depths of the desert gloom
With their hymns of lofty cheer.
Amidst the storm they sang,
And the stars heard, and the sea;
And the sounding aisles of the dim woods rang
To the anthem of the free.
The ocean eagle soared
From his nest by the white wave's foam;
And the rocking pines of the forest roared--
This was their welcome home.
There were men with hoary hair
Amidst the pilgrim band:
Why had they come to wither there,
Away from their childhood's land?
There was woman's fearless eye,
Lit by her deep love's truth;
There was manhood's brow, serenely high,
And the fiery heart of youth.
What sought they thus afar?
Bright jewels of the mine?
The wealth of seas, the spoils of war?
They sought a faith's pure shrine!
Ay, call it holy ground,
The soil where first they trod;
They have left unstained what there they found --
Freedom to worship God.

So – there you have it. I have to read a shorter version on the air… but this unabridged version is (IMO) much more majestic and captures the rhythm of the ocean waves crashing on the ‘wild and rock bound coast!
Got to finish a program for Friday too… see you later

A CHANGE IN OUR THANKSGIVING MESSAGE
Just a Minute: Computer problems dictate a need to forego our traditional Thanksgiving poem. More than 1000 protestors have been injured over the weekend in
Apparently the military leadership is on a collision course with the continuing efforts of protestors. The Field Marshals continue to put off voting and activists are noting this is what the military leadership promised under Mubarak that turned out not to be sincere. It was designed to preserve the power for the military.
Day before yesterday Field Marshal Husein Tantawi, head of the very secretive Supreme Council of the Armed Forces broadcast on state-owned TV a promise to hold elections by the middle of 2012. But even that failed to tamp down the continued uprising and response of tear gas against the citizenry.
So let our efforts on this Thanksgiving Day be payers for peace particularly in
