Hard to believe but we’re steadily ticking our way to the T-Day Thursday – and aren’t we glad! (J)
Actually, I was worried my wife might make me get up at 11:30PM on Thanksgiving to be sure to be at one of the midnight sales that are being so heavily touted this holiday season. No wonder you see so many men with bleary eyes… eat all day expecting to be able to sleep it off… and BANG… out the door before midnight… actually some stores are not even going to close their doors but just go right on selling through the holiday.
I’m glad I don’t understand how all of that is supposed to work. But I’ll just hang around to see what happens on Friday morning… other than multiple car wrecks from sleepy drivers. Oh well… it’s what people *want* to do… and then sit around over the weekend to watch a couple of dozen big brutes agitate a bag full of hot air – known as a football. I dunno – life takes on a funny shape when the holidays draw nigh.
The Santas are about… the tinkling of the Salvation Army Kettle ringers… or however one describes it. I guess I could do with a lot less of the buildup for the big let down… Do you remember how sad your sister was when her bicycle was not as big as her sister’s was… and all day Christmas Day she moped… and a cold envelope descended on the family. It happens sometimes… The problem is.. I reckon – we take our eyes off the real reason for the season. Now here I am coming along… and well….
I’ll just tell you what… I stop there and spend the rest of the week celebrating the Advent Season… and maybe I can interest some of the kiddos too.. giving us some of the *real* reason for the season. It’s too good to mess up with the wrong goals. And when we’re little… and don’t understand it all… well… it’s even harder.
But if we’ll turn our eyes upon Jesus… He’ll make it right… and it’ll all come out at the right place… I’m convinced. Just get out your Bible and read from the Gospel of Luke… Second chapter… that’ll get you in the mood … it does the trick for me. It’s a matter of getting recalibrated to what’s important for eternity… and that’s pretty hard to explain to the ‘little’uns… they understand cookies and candies and goodies easier… but it’ll help if you grandma’s and grandpa’s will help – I heard children saying to one another that they – the grandparents – are the only ones who have time to listen. Maybe you and I both can make some time to listen… I hope so. God bless us every one.
Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”
MR. MATTHEWS SAYS ‘THE THRILL IS GONE!’
Just a Minute: Chris Matthews, a former Tip O’Neil staffer who passes along to the lesser NBC farm teams his take on today’s news of the day -- has practically taken to bed because of “The Leader’s lack of leadership in the current situation.”
Mr. Matthews has lost the tingle up his leg so widely advertised some years back when he heard President Obama speak. Now, apparently, it takes more than silver words from the golden-haired news man to stimulate Matthews to his former excitement level. But he’s still looking for fresh orders from his ‘commander in chief’.
There’s so little to lead cheers for – no man to the moon – no Reformed Peace Corpsmen. Matthew asks: Why does he want a second term? Will he let us in on the secret? Where are we going? He’s not told us what he’s going to do about Medicare, Medicaid, Social-Security, Long-term debt, reform of the Tax system. Just tell us, commander, give us our orders and tell us where we’re headed?” Matthews said.
No wonder so many on Chris’ team feel lost in the fog. <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
