FURTHER THOUGHTS ON LIVING -- for Just A Minute Radio on Monday 111128

Welcome to Mondays once more.  Are you getting tired of turkey sandwiches yet?

My wife did a wonderful job of making some turkey gravy to go with some turkey meat and presented it with a bit of her excellent left-over cranberry sauce… and we were off to the Holiday season once again.  “Over the river and through the woods….” But we didn’t have any local snow.  In fact the temps around here even at night are up in the 60’s – which is a bit unusual but due to the southern flow of air toward the North.

That’s going to mean some WET weather to our north where the cold air awaits the southern warm air and turns all that moisture into rain.  So… last evening they began sending warnings to some of the mountainous places north of us – where the clouds will be persuaded by those higher elevations to “wring out” some of that moisture… and it may be resulting in fairly heavy rainfall totals.  That could mean flooding and those boys (and girls) at the WX BUREAUS always want to err on the side of warning for impending hazards rather than failing to ward.

So… if you think they’re pessimistic too much… just think whether you’d rather be warned and have it NOT happen… than the racket you’ll raise if a WX hazard does descend upon your driveway or nearby creek and you WEREN’T  warned.  Which error would you prefer?  Well… although I griped about it from time to time… I’d rather be flying in sunshine that resulted from having an inaccurate sunny forecast than dodging through thunderclouds about which I had NOT been warned.

See we sort of forget most of the airliners fly at altitudes where most of the weather is below them… but most of us who get to fly lighter, unpressurized smaller planes… well – we tend to fly down where the precip IS…  The things we usually miss are the 100 mph winds etc.  and some ice… it’s a complex world out there.

Today we’re trying to open up some discussion and perhaps learning about what the Bible means when warnings are given.  So… if you have a question or a comment… use the address lower down on this screen… to send me an e-mail – and since I don’t expect to be absolutely overwhelmed, I think I can answer them all in a rather brief span.  Let’s see how it goes if you wish to engage in some Q&A…  Thanks…

“JUST A MINUTE”

FURTHER THOUGHTS ON LIVING

Just a Minute:  Last Monday we were talking about Woody Allen and how he got sort of ‘ticked off’ at an early age about ‘having to die’ – and since then I saw further auto-biography in which he describes his early years as being somewhat traumatic – but obviously he’s tried and succeeded in writing, filmmaking, directing, and had the usual un-satisfactory elements of several marriages.

The Bible verse I quoted last Monday was Psalm 90 verse 12 which says: “So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”  But what does it mean? – You can learn for yourself. Just search the net… and you’ll get two dozen or more similar efforts to explain it to you. Each one contributes and builds on the understanding that the Lord has plugged in a handful of connections to explain His meanings.

I started this short discussion last week to; if possible, tweak your interest in discovering what God is telling you for yourself. If you wish we can carry this a bit further week by week.  I’ll look for your responses.
