WHAT'S CURRENTLY IN SHORT SUPPLY -- PLAIN SPEAKING -- Just A Minute Radio for Fridat 12-05-08

Hello – ONCE AGAIN it’s FRIDAY!!! – as Paul Harvey is want to shout-out!

But actually I think that’s a bit much for us. Not to take issue with America’s longest running radio newsman… for he is a tradition in himself. But I think it gives too much currency to the already magnified idea that as Americans in today’s culture we just live from weekend to weekend… It’s the TGIF syndrome. We really need to take stock and praise the Lord for every day that HE has made.

However, there I am up on my soapbox again. So… while I’m up here…J I take use of this ‘bully pulpit’ as TR said about the Presidency. (Obviously I’m not in that league.) However, I’ll utilize my admittedly much smaller megaphone to voice an opinion that has been bubbling up since all these big three boys have been running to Washington – at Hank Paulson’s invitation I fear – to make loud outcries for a BAILOUT!

I’m sorry Mr. Bush, Mr. Paulson and his cohorts – including Alan Greenspan who is reported to have acclaimed himself (mostly in private or when in his cups) as the ‘greatest living economist’ – have messed up royally as far as I can tell. What is worse they don’t seem to recognize they are giving every evidence they haven’t the slightest idea of what they are doing.

I know, arguments about economic policy go back to the time of the Caesars and Rome – but they also spent themselves into oblivion. But as well as I can see economic laws are just that “LAWS” – Laws… like the ‘law of gravity’ – are not just to be obeyed when we get around to it. When you stub your toe bad enough you fall down. It’s the LAW! The Sheriff doesn’t have to come and arrest you – you do your own arresting. That’s what we’re doing with passing out these Billions.

Surely, if I with my limited education – a simple B.A. in broadcasting, of all things – can see it, the ‘greatest living economist’ and his crowd ought to be able to see it – they just won’t admit it. I found recently with the illustration of futility I had often used of King Canute commanding the tide NOT to come in – I was wronging the king. He apparently set up his throne on the beach and commanded the tide to stop encroaching on his territory to demonstrate to his courtiers the futility of *even the king* making such a silly command. It was totally ineffective. That’s the situation we’re in with this crew of economic know nothings.

Folks… we can’t forever take money out of the barrel without putting more in. America can’t spend a dime without getting it from somewhere… when you run out of taxpayers – where do you go – Obviously… we go to CHINA! (and other assorted forces who don’t necessarily worry about *our* welfare.

Well… I’ve gone on entirely too long. Sorry to take this tone… but with the BIG THREE arriving in first their jets then their hybrid cars… and begging for more of my great-grandchildren’s money… I’m a bit upset. I hope the NATION will get upset and bid them stop sending us down the chute.

Cordially, (as I can muster today) IN HIM

Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHAT’S CURRENTLY IN SHORT SUPPLY- PLAIN SPEAKING

JUST A MINUTE – Top auto execs have shown up in jets and now in unavailable, future models to cry on the Nation’s shoulder for a bail-out.

It turns the stomach to see Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat, UAW minion, shepherding these doo-fus blue suits into the Senate uttering another plaintive wail wanting Americans to mortgage their grandchildren so top dogs get golden parachutes.

In the South, huge fabric and furniture plants are closed, idling thousands who have nobody’s shoulder to cry on for a Christmas bail-out. Instead, we gather our resources, roll up our sleeves help neighbors, reinvent the wheel and skip the bail and wail music.

It’s time for America to talk plain – this is a nation of problem solvers, not crybabies. Tell Wall Street Frat boys -- clean up your own mess. The marketplace will clean out credit dummies – that’s the only effective way to solve the problem.

Leave the piggy banks of our grandchildren alone. Pay for your own mis-management. Ante up or get out of the game. It’s time to get rollin’ again.
