Howdy folks… HIT’S FRIDAY! According to th’ almanac…
And something else…. You’ll be dazzled watching the sky tonight if it’s not cloudy. It will be an exceptionally high, bright, and large Moon. In fact, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac this Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons this year. Why? The Moon is both in its full phase and at a point in its orbit that is nearest Earth, called its perigee. When these events occur together, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. The effect? The Full Cold Moon will appear especially large near the horizon as the Sun sets this evening.
Even at midnight the Almanac says – if it’s not cloudy -- you won’t need a flashlight to take a stroll and see what your neighborhood looks like in bright moonlight. You might even take your favorite girl along and impress her with your astronomical knowledge.
The news today is still full of Rod Blagojevich – and not so full of news about those who were being honored by their country – Like Chuck Colson. I know some of you will claim I’m being totally partisan. Well… I answer that bell OK. But matching my partisanship against say Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid or any of a half dozen other names the GOP comes out virtually untouched. But we’ll let that pass. Just tell us what you’re for and we’ll examine the evidence. Consider the number of governors in jail or threatened prosecution by either party; or add up the people who’ve been caught with hands in the cookie jar – unapologetically. If you were to weigh the two major parties in the balance on that score… the GOP would win hands down. Not to say we don’t have our scoundrels. But they are far fewer and often repent of their wicked ways.
Well… times up for today. Join us again on Monday… Things will be clearer then.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack

TAKING THE LONG VIEW
JUST A MINUTE – Two news stories in the last few days illustrate the contrasts in American media as well as life.

On a personal note I interviewed once with Chuck for a prestigious post and didn’t get it because I asked the wrong questions of a man who, at that time was totally gung-ho on getting the job done and don’t get in his way. Later my daughter Kyle spent significant time working in the organization Chuck founded – Prison Fellowship Ministries – and for that he was honored this week by President George W. Bush.
Choices are made, paths taken and results recorded. I pray the
