Hello Once Again –
We’re reminded once again how life is a vapor that vanishes as quickly as steam out of a teakettle.
A good friend, with whom I shared some difficult days in
Well… today, he’s free of those difficulties and limitations – Praise the Lord. We had a conversation some years ago about Christianity and I learned from him about ‘Coptic’ Christians – whose history goes back a long time before any of my kinfolks. But it’s interesting to see how God uses different people with different gifts. Paul Weyrich was a man of stature, and intellect. Who did not mind speaking his mind when it was necessary. One or two of the comments that came in over the transom mentioned his temper. I never saw it displayed… disgust perhaps but not temper. And we lived through some trying days on Capitol Hill in the wake of the loss after Senator Goldwater ran. We were down to only 32 Republican senators…and some of those were not ‘dependable’ votes.
Anyway… Paul’s life was a good example of a man – a Christian – who devoted himself to Christ and to further causes of justice and fairness in which he believed. We shall miss him. But the Lord will supply others to carry on – and HIS will – will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”
A MAJOR CONSERVATIVE ICON PASSES
Just A Minute – The Heritage Foundation, a Washington think thank announced Thursday the death of a founder, Paul Weyrich, who, although in bad health and wheelchair bound was not inhibited in his vision for
Weyrich is credited with coining ‘Moral Majority’ and was the first president of Heritage, also CEO and Chairman of the Free Congress Foundation. His last commentary, posted on their web site yesterday, saw the future as, “the best of times, because conservative thinkers are generating ideas and proposals for a 'Next Conservatism,' which will lead to substantive debate about the nation's core principles and future direction.”
I was privileged to serve on Capitol Hill with Paul, Brian Lamb, Lee Edwards, Ed Feulner, and others in the dark days after the Goldwater defeat. Camaraderie and conservative principles were the only assets we had against an LBJ onslaught. We stuck together, and Lee described Paul as “a dedicated conservative and patriot, an excellent strategist who had a sharp sense of humor, which he employed at all times.”
Yes, we are left the poorer but with an irrepressible vision and hope for
