WE'RE TIRED OF GETTING BATTED AROUND -- Just a Minute Radio for Friday 120810

I’m not sure I’m going to last for the whole 96 days they say are still remaining in the campaign before the actual voting.

Really I don’t know just when anything that’s as tiring in a similar way has come along recently that’s had this much of a tiring effect on me. I’m not exactly complaining – I just don’t understand the “go’round” that’s happening. Do you think it could be the fact that I passed the 80 mpg mark back in January has anything to do with it? (L) Surely not! OTOH I’ve never exactly been this way before. [I’ve wanted quite a long while to find out what I wanna be when I grow up.]

Just trying to think it through. – Another thing the days seem to be getting shorter faster this year. Wonder what that has to do with it? I”ve noticed eyelid closing times seem to come earlier or more suddenly – like around ten thirty in the morning or two thirty in the afternoon. My dog Emma likes to go on walks in the neighborhood…. In fact she often wants to go much more enthusiastically than I do.

Yesterday I got, via the UPS driver, the Nuance “Dragon” --- which is supposed to be the poorman’s answer for not having his own typist – or taking the time to learn how to do it himself. In other words I’m going to try how to turn speech into written text virtually effortlessly.  Anyone want to place bets?  I’m not sure I do. I already tried once and had to send the thing back…. Now the second go and I hope it won’t take a third go ‘round.

We’re getting to the end of the electoral race and I’ve got a LOT of things to do writing and mailing etc. So… I’m giving it another try.  First thing is learning how to get it to work… and all that goes with that.

So anticipating a busy day tomorrow getting this off my plate – I’m hitting the hay. Look for you next week at EARL’N’ LESTER’S BAIT SHOP AND SUSHI BAR. People wonder where it is…it’s in the make believe town on the CAROLINER LINE… and we’re gonna have fun learning how to capture all the different accents etc. and put them in scripts or on the air or whatever the Lord leads. See you then….’

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WE’RE TIRED OF GETTING BATTED AROUND

Just a Minute: There were some interesting bat-minton contests televised from the Olympics in England – but I never considered that game with the skinny racquets was Olympic material I guess. Anyway we in the South and especially conservatives are getting ‘batted’ around I think as we draw nearer the election.

Kansas Governor – and former Senator Sam Brownback – is leading what the headlines describe as a “Voter Uprising” and it impresses me as only one of a batch of ‘uprisings’ that are forming up as the elections show up on the horizon. The Wall St. Journal calls it a ‘voter rebellion’ out there and say last Tuesday at least nine state senators have lost their senate seats to conservative challengers.  Brownback campaigned in 2010 on a ticket promising to make slow-growth Kansas more competitive. Now (or shortly) he’ll have a Senate majority that he can work with.

What is most interesting is that similar incumbency is being reined in Indiana, Nebraska and Texas. Next week we’ll try to take a look at how Tea Partyites and other basket upsetters may be setting the stage for some grass roots reconstruction.
