WE ARE JUST MAKING THE PROCESS SIMPLER -- for Just a Minute RadioFriday120817

As usual things slide down to the end of the week and things get kind of cluttered up.

As a family we laid to rest a veteran from WWII and the Korean War in the Lovely Veteran’s Cemetery near Anderson, SC. It was a very touching ceremony with taps and the flag-draped coffin in a beautiful park manicured for its job as a resting place for the veterans of the United States Military.  I was proud to be able to be there.

It seems that some things the government does, it does well and this is one.

We’re drawing nearer the end of the road on this election matter – and as many have read me say in this blog before… it can’t come too soon. For me I think this is the most depressing part of a President’s Term. Saying good by to staff and unwinding the associations. But I would also think there are benefits of being relieved of the responsibilities which are naturally quite heavy.

Let us proceed with patience as an older lawyer – accustomed to dealing with governmental minutia told me once after my expression of frustration –

Now now Mr. Buttram… let us make haste – patiently.  At least that’s how I recall it. He didn’t make errors and the work we got done was good and significant. It seems like a long time ago.

Hope you have a good weekend – enjoy it and be back with us on Monday, Lord Willing.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WE ARE MAKING THIS PROCESS SIMPLER

Just a Minute: A Pennsylvania judge has done the rest of us a favor. His name is Judge Robert Simpson and he refused to block a new ID law from going into effect. He refused to overturn a law duly passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor.

The law applies equally to all the state’s residents and the Commonwealth will carry out the law in a “non partisan and even-handed manner,” he said. The matter arose due to an ACLU complaint alleging the state was trying to suppress minority votes.  It will probably pit Judge Simpson against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder who’s trying his level best to make minority votes count even when they are illegal.

Adding emotion to the case – but not contesting it in Federal Court because a similar case has already been decided in Indiana against, the complainants – the ACLU is bringing up a 93 year old widow who will be allowed to vote under provisions of the new law despite having no birth certificate.

So we’re applauding Judge Simpson who is doing what he can to keep the law above politics.
