SOMETIMES WE NEED CHRISTMAS EARLY -- for JUST A MINUTE RADIO on Thursday 111004

G’day folks… interesting news came across the wires last evening – I don’t know how widely it’s been reported today.

Possibly you’ve heard the AMERICAN FAMILY ASSOCIATION headed by Tim Wildmon. They’ve had a campaign running for several years now because of the stories that pop up after Thanksgiving in these recent years in which there are increasing pressures building to just remove Christmas altogether from everything.

Sometimes it sounds like the kinfolks of Ebenezer Scrooge trying to scrub the memory of Christmas Past, Present, or Future from our Welcoming at the end of the calendar year. And with the present nut crop that’s decided they want to protest – they’ve picked Wall Street, among other places to set up their raucous effrontery. However, they’ve misplaced whatever it is they’re protesting about. I think they’ve missed a hard left turn and lost their way – they think this is Europe or something?

When you can understand – or get a semblance of what they are trying to say or protest about it just gets silly.

For several years that’s been mounting and apparently they have about reached the pinnacle of nonsense. Send them out to the woods to hug some trees rather than clutter up the city streets. Anyway – I’m off the subject.

Some of these nutcases want to suppress Christmas and all that pertains to it of any dimension – and have aimed their ire at Nativity scenes or Crèches – even colored lights that decorate Christmas trees even if they have no particular religious meaning… it’s nutty. So today we share the news with you that the American Family Association – which has been faithfully promoting those things that strengthen the family. So if you’re for the family you’ll be pleased to hear according to AFA the ship seems to be slowly reaching a turn-around spot.

One of the major chains of banks has, at least for this year, decided to let their branches display a Christmas tree.  Wonderful… let’s have a playing of the Hallelujah Chorus. Perhaps others will get the idea and we can go back to saying “Merry Christmas” without hearing Scrooge saying “Humbug!” in the background.

Actually the opposition is so far off the mark it’s ludicrous – but we should have places for people to play in their mental sand piles.

So… before I get too far off first base… just be sure to catch the program at a good time or listen to it on the Internet. Christmas is too big and too important a holiday to be derailed by the atheists and Scrooges of the world. Stick with it and be sure to say Merry Christmas (perhaps after Thanksgiving) to the grocery store clerks and anyone else you think could use a little cheering up.

It’ll make you feel better too!

Of course we know we’re commemorating Christ Our Saviour coming to earth the first time… now it’s time for us to get serious in our firm expectation to be ready for His second appearing!  Amen!

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

SOMETIMES WE NEED CHRISTMAS EARLY

Just a Minute:  Here’s good news from American Family Association.

Last year a Texas businessman decorated a Christmas tree in a JP Morgan Chase Bank -- a favor to the manager. But the manager was told the tree must go -- so it was taken down. However the bank said later the tree could stay but it was just an exception -- they weren’t changing the policy.

Over the course of a year the AFA (American Family Association) continued to be in contact with the bank and asking for a policy revision. Last evening I got an e-mail message the bank has changed its policy for 2011 and will now allow branch banks to display Christmas trees on the premises. The precise language is: "Trees and menorahs will arrive the week of November 21 and may be displayed as soon as you receive them." – That’s reported from an internal memo of JP Morgan Chase Bank dated September 26, 2011.

AFA says: “We are slowly winning theWar on Christmas,’ and are encouraging our friends to wear an attractive lapel button created to show retailers and national companies ‘It's OK to say Merry Christmas.’"

AFA’s Internet address is “AFA.net” – Just tell ‘em -- Jack sent you. (J) <> I’m Jack Buttram.  (END)
