GETTING TO THE STARTING GATE IS DIFFICULT -- for JUST A MINUTE RADIO on Tuesday 111011

Wonderful to be communicating with you at the speed of light.

No – it’s not my effortless typing speed, or even that I have figured out how to make my computer speech responsive. (I know the program is in there somewhere and have even fiddled with it a little, but it seemed rather tedious and slow requiring a lot of corrections – which I’m already doing with my twisted hunt and peck typing system.

See, like most budding journalists (that was then, this is now) I didn’t have time to learn how to type properly. So while I can type fairly fast it’s full of errors – and some funny words result. However now that I have an ‘automatic’ typo corrector I get by pretty well. And am greatly appreciative to Bill Gates & Company for coming up with that beauty.

However, I’m off the subject. The computer is also very smart… but I find it’s not as smart as “HAL” – one of the earliest computers to make it into the movies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the whole movie… just bits and pieces where the two guys (as I remember) were trying to outsmart “HAL” who was obviously more skilled than they were – he could read lips and almost read their minds as to what they were going to do next.

My computer is no where near that smart… I got stuck about midnight last night trying to get this out on deadline… and the computer really did have a glitch – for once it was not me… and I couldn’t figure it out and all of my ancillary gurus upon whom I call so often would have been at least irritated if I had awakened them at that hour. So… what did I do?  Well… I gave up.

I went out to the kitchen and made myself another mug (the second of the evening) of a brand of tea that has only a name like “BLUE ROYAL” on it. It’s not particularly distinctive but suits me fine… and I sat for about 25 minutes reading my daily Bible Schedule… both in the New Testament and in Isaiah 45,46,47 and when I had finished all that and had a wonderful talk with the Lord… for the Bible tells us plainly it is “Christ in you the hope of Glory.” And I rely on that because I’ve been reading and believing these wonderful words from God for five or six decades now… but this was different. I didn’t hear the Lord speaking audibly to me – but He assured me – through the words He knew I would be reading just at this time – that He would be guiding me in finding the problem.

Well… I won’t go through all the detail – but it was a wonderful time… from about 1:45 AM this morning… until sometime after 3AM when I’ll be finishing this typing… I found a way to troubleshoot the problem. The machine found the problem… (So I still don’t know what it was.) and fixed it and shortly I’ll be wrapping this whole thing up and putting it to bed. I am overjoyed AND grateful to the Lord for answering my prayer so specifically.

----

May I just mention one more thing. My Grandson, Colin Harding, was almost killed last Wednesday evening when he was riding his bike with some friends – his employer and some others with them – out in Lubbock, Texas where he is/was planning to go to school – he was broadsided by a pickup driver who boosted him across three traffic lanes… broke his leg, some ribs, his nose, some deep cuts and survived. (He had forgotten to wear his biking helmet) But praise the Lord he came through it alive. He could have easily been killed.

As I write this his mother and oldest brother are with him – he’s been released from the hospital in their care. I don’t know what arrangements they have managed to make for living, sleeping, giving him his meds… taking him to therapy etc. But the Lord does… and I’m so glad to tell you the Lord does take care of us whether the needs are great or small… HE IS ABLE to comfort and care for us in every situation.

So… we don’t know how this will end… but we do know the ONE who created the entire universe and who knows when even a sparrow falls. I share that with you because somehow God wanted you to know this – and for me to write this so you could read it – and He has HIS word for you too.

God bless you – and strengthen you and your loved ones, as he has me.

Write me if you wish --- my e-mail address is at the bottom of this note. I’d love to hear how God has come into your life.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

GETTING TO THE STARTING GATE IS DIFFICULT

Just a Minute:  OK class get pen and paper ready – please pay attention.

We once had an orderly system of primaries and caucuses which evaporated when Florida and restless Arizona ignored the Republican National Committee rules and moved their elections around. – So --  now it looks like Florida will vote January 31st while Arizona will move to February 28th. Neither was supposed to vote before March 6th – and the first four states are gonna defend their privileges and are moving up their dates losing half their delegates (but since Iowa has a non binding caucus, they won't be penalized).

Even the Romney campaign tried to issue what one newspaper called a ‘non-denial denial.’  Well I say we’ve either manufactured a circular firing squad or are planning for Rugby in the mud.

The end result is: Nevada votes on January 14 and South Carolina on January 21st. Which means New Hampshire moves to January 3rd and Iowa to December 26th – What a mess? Happy New Year everybody.
