THE GOV. SAYS HE'S ALREADY GOT A JOB! -- for Just A Minute on Wednesday 111005

These nice cool mornings are just fine for walking around the neighborhood. Why don’t I do more?

Just laziness I reckon… or too much business… I’ll choose the latter.

Well, yesterday was a busy day – and maybe we’re moving things along just a bit.  It’s kind of “All aboard whose going aboard.” The campaign is about to leave the dock. I’ve heard that language was used on the passenger ship docks in major harbors… used to be part of the sound effects library back in the days of dramatic radio productions… and then a great big ship’s horn blasted out and made even the timber pilings vibrate.

We don’t have a radio drama to produce, but Mr. Obama is ‘ginning’ up his own drama day by day.  In the general junk mail I’ve already gotten requests from the Obama campaign… and ‘personally’ signed requests for contributions of $3 or more.  I don’t recall getting any requests for $3.  The usual minimum on political campaigns *starts* at the max for individuals of $2000 and works down to about $25 at a minimum.  From the quarterly filings that have to be made my understanding is he already has a considerable stash on file. But I don’t carry those large numbers around in my head now.

Also I heard there is a deadline for filing – but I don’t know for which contest. I’ve heard it as October 28… but have no verification for that since I’m not planning on running. (J) [Aren’t you glad! No useless cluttering the field from the Buttram household.]

Governor Christie was urged from all sides – including two former first ladies – to run for the presidency.  But decided “it was not his time.”  It took a long time and he said for some people he would have had to commit suicide to convince them he was serious about not running. I’m in agreement with his decision.  He committed to the people of New Jersey and they honored him with their votes. He’s respected that and will continue as the Garden State’s chief executive officer for at least another two years.

He’s made a serious gain on clearing the State’s indebtedness and working on reducing the long-term debt. We’ll need the same bitter treatments for the United States if we are to survive long term.

I think about everything that needs to be said on this decision has been said… so I’ll sign off for this session and hope we have many more.

Cordially, IN HIM

Jack
