WHERE HAVE ALL THE WORKERS GONE? -- Friday February 110401

Praise the Lord – I’m just happy to be through that week and hope we don’t have to experience it again.

But actually we have more difficult ones coming up.  Our son Kevin and his family will be returning from their mission assignment to Hawaii for the last three years or so.  I know, I know – “tough job” people say… but somebody’s got to do it.

I’ve visited there several times… and find it really a beautiful place as is Samoa and Fiji, New Zealand and other places out in the South Pacific…

But also I recall when we were visiting Kevin and they were installing those Tsunami warning sirens probably 20+ years ago.  I think you can feel awfully lonely out there when one of those ‘biggies’ roll in and stack up the boats in the Marina and wash whole amadas of Toyotas in the drink.  And Hawaii is there – why? Because that’s where God wants it to be – is the first answer – but the volcanologist will say… It’s where twotechtonic plates some together – pieces of the earth’s crust… and when there’s disturbances there – the molten lava wants to come up and show itself.

One of the most spectacular film shot’s I’ve ever seen is when a river of fire comes writhing its way down the slopes of the 11 thousand foot peak to the ocean… making steam and shoving things out of the way when it comes. Talk about something ‘unstoppable’ – that’s it.  They’ve tried… it wipes out roads villages, landmarks and reaches the ocean with a giant cloud of water turned back into vapor.

I sure am glad the Lord God is in charge of all this. Otherwise I’d be scared!

Well, we’re seeing more of the beauties of Spring – and are hoping perhaps beginning this fall if the weather is nice and no sudden emptying of the bank account… we can utilize some savings and finally get around to doing some landscaping here… or getting it done.

We’ve got a yard sale in prospect in May.  Why so long wait.. you may ask?  It takes TIME to collect and accumulate all this ‘stuff’ – but in May we’re going to ‘unload’ – at least that’s what we say.  Plus… I *need* to get my ham rig back on the air in some fashion. I can still remember the Morse Code… but I’m our of practice…I’ve taken some of the early steps… but that’s not getting there… perhaps later in the summer.  Then I haven’t seen my brother in over two years now…and I’d like to see those folks as well as the Virginia mountains where I grew up… Tis in me blood!

With the pinch-penny mode I’m in… they all say “Scots’ – [not Scotch…that’s a dog or a drink] Just keep on reading there’s bound to be something educational here.  But I must move on – it’s 12:31AM says my midnight oil little clock cube… I’ve already been sleepy all the day.

So… Thanks for coming by – enjoy the weekend – Till Monday….

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHERE HAVE ALL THE WORKERS GONE?

Just a Minute: Yesterday we woke with TWO front-page Wall Street Journal stories telling us two multi-billionaires left their top-of-the-heap jobs and no longer hold keys to the executive washrooms.

Warren Buffett’s nearly certain successor at Berkshire Hathaway had stepped down after having bought $10 million or so shares of Lubrizol realizing about a $3 million profit.

While Paul Allen, co-founder, and thought-to-be successor to Bill Gates at Microsoft, also had departed his slot as designated leader at Redmond, – He departed with his 37 percent of the company saying he wanted to spend more time with his family – and investments.

Buffet, and Mr. Paul Sokol, did not feel the purchases “were in any way unlawful.”  Buffet is CEO and Berkshire Chairman.  The Security and Exchange Commission said nothing.

Allan’s book – due out mid April – called -- “Idea Man: Memoir by the CoFounder of Microsoft.” He’ been treated for cancer. – I guess even billionaires can’t get good help these days. <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
