RENAME THE EXPLORATORY COMMITTEES - for Just A Minute Radio - Tuesday 110419

Hi There again on a Tuesday –

Like it was said earlier – Tuesday is an important day at our house, otherwise we have odiferous entertainment out toward the street as our ageing ‘garbage’ awaits another week.  There was some confusion at the beginning – Tuesday was the day – but the trash truck didn’t often get there during the day… so… we wondered… but usually during the evening we would hear the engine and the bumping and grinding etc… that signaled we were in the clear for another week.

Then things happened. The contractor apparently bought an additional truck – or perhaps a fleet of trucks… and we having gotten a bit lax about getting the trash out early missed a truck… and that meant a semi-smelly week. So… we learned not to do that again.  But it provided a certain anxiety if we slept late or whatever. We wanted to have the trash out there bright and early… and so it is these days… The schedule hasn’t changed a lot… but we’re hanging in there. The foibles of inter-urban living.

Meanwhile we’re trying to figure out does it make a difference if we are in the mode of perpetual campaigning?

I believe I could take a month of heavy campaigning… but 18 months… things get pretty worn out.  The speeches are shopworn long before the race is over… and except for squabbles – by the time we’re six months away from the election – we’ve just about heard all there IS to say without repeating oneself. But we slog along just the same.

Today we’re giving an abbreviated run down of the crowded field as it stands in these early days. You may think you are tired of it all ready… but not nearly so much as the column writers etc. etc. who must think up something new to challenge the contest… Ahhh… I think that’s the CANDIDATES with… this is NOT a simple quiz show.

So stick with us… and be thankful we only take up 60 seconds of your time (J)… (some days perhaps a hair or two more) We’ll try to get it to you fast and accurately.

And may the Lord be with you as you go through the process that over half the world would pay big money to have the same opportunities we have – so we should really appreciate all the ways we can participate in the election of our top folks. Let us realize that what’s good for the country may well be the best for us too.

At least let’s give it an honest, straightforward try.

Cordially, IN HIM

Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”

RENAME THE EXPLORATORY COMMITTEES?

Just a Minute: After checking weekend editions and Sunday talk shows I threw in the towel deciding we ought to re-name exploratory committees the “Starting Gate.” I’ve never run across someone organizing such a committee who ultimately didn’t run.

Romney has Massachusetts health care legislation his successor declares better than sliced bread. Former Governor Tim Pawlenty was shaking hands Saturday in New Hampshire.  Yesterday, former Governor Sarah Palin praised President Obama for lighting the fire under the Tea Party.  And Ex-Arkansas Governor Haley Barbour declared his avowed interest.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich has racked up campaign trail mileage already and former Governor Mike Huckabee hasn’t signed up a committee yet but spent a big slice of time on Fox News saying what he thought he “might” do if he entered the fray.

I’ve left off a lot and not gotten to the lesser ranks of those waiting at the post. Donald Trump needs no serious mention but father and son from the family Paul are waiting in the wings… I don’t know just how we’ve have so many not-yet candidate-candidates before we start.
