HOW DID WE LET THIS MESS HAPPEN ANYWAY?

Great to have you with us on  Monday…. I know it’s difficult to get out of bed and start another week… but think of the alternative. (J)

There were lots of bits and pieces of stories scattered across the weekend and I considered another one about Mr. Romney, Mr. Pawlenty and possibly another of the field in the New Hampshire primary – but do you realize the primary in New Hampshire and Iowa… the very first one is six plus months away…

“That fer eh?” says the old New England farmer in NH… who has a whole growing season yet to face plus the harvest and Christmas… then he’ll have to be ready to do maple syrup right in the middle of all that will come all these campaigners wanting to pin down votes in NH… and a little bit later here in SC… and it’s all so far away… it’s like trying to hit a bullseye on a speeding train on the way from Washington to New England and nobody’s even figured out which train and track they’re going to use….

In other words… all this fussin’ going on now probably won’t make a hill of beans…but it’s a sport… and horse races and senate races are a LOT alike. (L).

Oh but don’t say that the primary officials say… the like to promote these things… people come to town on expense accounts… rent hotel rooms and eat in their coffee houses while the reporters try not to inform another correspondent just what it is they have up their sleeve… etc. etc. etc.

Yeah… it’s here… and I’m afraid it will be here for a LONG time. But until we get really reform minded … it’s going to be that way.

Tomorrow I’ll try to take an informed look at the Pawlenty, Romney and possibly another campaign if we can fit it all in sixty seconds.

Meantime send in your questions… I’ll try to give ‘em a cogent answer… and promise to answer all the mail, email or otherwise I get.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

HOW DID WE LET HIS MESS HAPPEN ANYWAY?

Just a Minute: The guy who heads the FAA took his licks from Chris Wallace Sunday trying to explain why they continued finding controllers ‘asleep at the switch’ in places like Reagan National in Washington.

Wallace kept badgering the FAA guy “Why couldn’t they make the controllers responsible?” The answer is simple – they could. You fire the ones that mess up. Why can’t they fire ‘em hastily? The Controllers contract requires an investigation be  thoroughly completed etc. etc. before actions can be taken.  I have an airline transport rating and formerly flew into Reagan and Dulles regularly – something’s slipped badly in that department.

Greenville Downtown solves its problem simply by making the field an uncontrolled one after 10PM… In other words the pilots are responsible on their own --- I don’t have the time to get into the details – but my Dad was a union postal worker…I saw his contract… strikes simply were not allowed.

The government lets unions push them around until we have an unsafe situation. Reagan showed it can be corrected.
