THIS IS ATTRIBUTED TO PRESIDENT LINCOLN - Just A Minute Radio for Thursday 110414

Hullo oncte more… (that’s pronounced once – wonst upon a time) It’s the spelling that’s gotten messed up from all the pollen in the air.

So here we are cruising toward a full blown Spring… and things are really beginning to pop out. And I think we’re about to get to the place where the groundhog just doesn’t care any more. (J) At least that’s my hope.

Well… we got a lot of hype on what kind of speech we were going to get – and we got something less than the advance billing. But that doesn’t mean the battle is over – in fact I’m afraid we might as well *entertain* the thought (though it isn’t very entertaining) that we’ve seen a lot of things happen this week… and adoption of budgets (notice the plural) all to be drafted and voted on *urgently* right now… and so right after the urgency wears off we wonder what was all the moaning and groaning about.

It’s hard to sustain moaning and groaning over just a few days or weeks… We’d rather be doing something else. So the newness of having a newly, rather inexperienced President trying to learn the ropes – when he doesn’t particularly care for ropes – and it’s finally seeping in that getting elected isn’t the end of the line…while we begin to have it soak in we’re not anywhere near finished yet.

On top of that the price of oil and everything else seems to continue to creep or leap up  -- and bite you.  It’s a cruel world out there. I’m sympathetic for some of my boys this fall will cross over the line from being closer to sixty than to fifty… All of the kids *suddenly* are growing up… and one in particular has been out of employment for more than a year and a half with a family including adopted children … and all of this essentially through no fault of his own and not for not continuing to seek for work.

However – the wonderful thing is all of our children are the Lord’s children… and HE has promised never to leave us or forsake us.  So… even as an older father, grandfather and soon to be nine times great-grandfather [with great grandmother running along a few steps ahead of me] the rock of my confidence – indeed the rock of my salvation is the Lord. We know that we may depend upon HIM today, tomorrow and forever. That’s far better than any insurance you can buy! – Our Heavenly Father is the one who made *everything* and by HIM everything holds together. Amen!

Well… I leave the subject.  Sorry. So the scripture that pops into my head at this moment is: “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof…” But the first part of that verse says: “Take no thought for tomorrow; for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” [Matthew 6:34]

Reminds me of somebody’s book that says: “Don’t sweat the small stuff… and it’s all small stuff.”  Certainly the little problems that nip us about the ankles day by day are nothing compared to some of the BIG problems that roll down on you.  The answer to that is through prayer… just roll them back on the Lord HE can handle anything.

We’ve seen that very thing happen to us this past week.  It’s getting to where we’re *glad* to see the Lord intervening in our case… and pray HE will continue so we can be a blessing to others.

It’s early on Friday morning as I put the computer to sleep… before I put myself to sleep.  I hope when you read this you will be rested and refreshed too for tomorrow is FRIDAAAAAAYYYYY!

Cordially, IN HIM

Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”

THIS IS ATTRIBUTED TO PRESIDENT LINCOLN

Just a Minute:  Today, I use a quotation attributed to President Abraham Lincoln – one which I recall from my American history class at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, Roanoke, Virginia – and it’s stayed with me from the 40’s –this is the first time I’ve ever used it in public:

Mr. Lincoln, our 16th President of the United States, said: You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.”

Up to now, I don’t think I’ve ever had occasion to use the quotation attributed to Mr. Lincoln. But the current President’s speech on Wednesday has set the current need for it.

Vice President Biden was recorded on national TV exhibiting a moderate amount of enthusiasm for the weightiness of the Presidential speech either by dozing with his eyes closed or meditating on national TV while the President’s speech entranced the nation – as it always does.

It promises to be a long time ‘till November of 2012. <> I’m Jack Buttram (END)
