WHAT BRINGS US TO THIS UNHAPPY JUNCTION? -- for Just A Minute Radio - Tuesday 111018

            When I went to the mailbox and no mail… THEN I remembered it’s a holiday… MLK Jr.’s b-day… congratulaitons!

But just shows what tricks my memory plays… Like a guy who worked on my crew for a couple of years would tell me when I questioned him about something he promised that was not accomplished… “Mr.  B…. I got a good memory OK…. It’s just too short!”  Well… that got him through school OK.

Can’t say I set any memory records myself.  I once was put through a “Middle Management Orientation Program” for a major textile manufacturer.  After I came home a couple of days with cotton hanging out of my ears from being around a thousand looms all running at one time… and my dear wifey asked me what was wrong… I said – “I don’t know exactly what I *want* to do at this mill… but I do know exactly what I *don’t* want to do.”  Trouble is we don’t always get to do that do we.

Actually … I was put to learning how to tie ten weaver’s knots (with string) in sixty seconds.  After practicing several days I managed to pass that test.  But thankfully I didn’t have to put that skill to the test.  I was invited to take up another position  -- which did not involve hearing 1000 looms running for several hours each day… so I retained my hearing acuity … or does that only apply to vision?

In any case… I’m glad I had the experience.  The other day I was sharing that experience with another employee of that same mill… who told me it has been converted from a weaving mill to a spinning mill.  I’m sure that’s somewhat quieter… and probably less dangerous.  I always felt taking a ‘log’ of cloth off one of those looms in such a tight place… I was always concerned I might drop it.  I could manage it… but just barely.  I was old enough – just not practiced enough.  It reminded me of when my Dad and I worked for a very small orchardist…  I could hardly pick up one bushel of apples… but at the end of the first summer… I could pick up a stack of TWO! So I found out being challenged is a *good* thing. You learn more… and develop some muscles!

So far I’ve not had to revive my snow shoveling skills from teen age years – and it’s probably a good thing – for everybody within my slipping and sliding range. I know there are probably folks listening to me this very day who slipped on the ice and busted something – a knee or an elbow or perhaps both… My heart goes out to you… I only broke an ankle once when trying to move a light airplane… and slipping on some wet grass… but that was enough… Thankfully no more broken bones… ARTHRITUS --- but no more broken bones Praise the Lord.

Well… it’s winter time… and that’s what we have the possibilities of this and next month… and even into March sometimes… It’s the DEAD of winter… even if the days are longer by just a smidge… we Almanac watchers keep track of those things. (J)

Have a great day… Keep looking to the Lord for HIS blessing.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHAT BRINGS US TO THIS UNHAPPY JUNCTION

Just a Minute: - In Tucson, Arizona, January 8th 31 shots set tragic events in motion. Since then we prayed asking how and why has this come pass?

From the President on down, no one has been able to successfully call forth calm and a cooling of the raging animosity inflaming our reason.  Emotions leap higher.

So may I then put forth from the Father of our country, a statement which he may have experienced during the darkest days of his winter spent at Valley Forge.

“To the distinguished Character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to add the more distinguished Character of Christian. The signal Instances of providential Goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labours with complete Success, demand from us in a peculiar manner the warmest returns of Gratitude and Piety to the Supreme Author of all Good.” – George Washington.

No matter how discouraging the continuing set-backs and appear – I find encouragement in the Bible and place my trust in the same Saviour as General Washington.
