            G’day folks… We’ve finally gotten to the end of *this* week… I fear the coming one will be filled with argument and conflict and charges of nefarious vote-stealing bordering on body snatching. (L)

 

            We shall see. 

 

            Certainly the climate has not improved with the run-up to this election being filled with charges and counter-charges. Promises made – promises broken and in general I’ve never experienced such an election pre-finish having this level of hullabaloo.  But it’s upon us and we must endure.

 

            May I say up front that this contest has had more than its share of name calling and overall grumpiness – but I’d like to commend one of the candidates who’s both local – and has during this election cycle, become one of the national features of the election scene, who has been in the heat of the battle, but continually retained his ‘cool’ – even though he has had ample opportunity to lose it.

 

            I’m referring of course to our local legislator here in Greenville, who served three terms as the 4^th District’s congressman and now is seeking his second term as Senator from South Carolina – I mean Jim DeMint.  He’s not in need of my endorsement and as a comment provider and describer of the scene, I frankly try to maintain a low profile – but I have no hesitation in commending him for keeping his calm demeanor and saying what needed to be said upon occasion – but not overstating what is needed, and conducting himself as the gentleman I know him to be. – I said he is our “local legislator” but this year he has of necessity become a national political figure – deservedly so.  It’s not something he sought – but he’s going to need support from ‘the home folks’ – because Washington is a ‘no holds barred’ scene.  I commend him for his stance and for his dedication to the political process which he’s undertaken with calmness and with honor. Let us on the home front “keep the home fires burning” and support him in the effort he’s undertaking on our behalf.

 

            Overall, I think it’s a beautiful fall season here in the Carolinas and Georgia.  I’m happy to be able to observe the gracious gift God gives us of the beauty during this season – my favorite.  I’m glad we have more and more people able to hear our flagship station WMUU-FM due to the increased antenna height as well as the Internet streaming-audio which was recommenced during the past year.

 

            I would encourage those who feel benefitted as well as blessed by the ministry of WMUU – to communicate that to the station executives and those in charge of the programming and it’s execution.  There are engineers, production people, music librarians, accounting, sales folks whose diligence insures the signal will still reach into your homes and cars – and again computers… let them know you appreciate their work. It’s largely done more or less in a solo environment – and seldom do they hear from you in person… or by letter.  It’s not Christmas or Thanksgiving time yet… but all the more reason why your note or indication of appreciation would be even more welcome before a season that is probably going to become *very* busy.

 

            It never hurts to spread a little cheer around to faithful fellow workers… St. Paul called them fellow-laborers in the Gospel. Your encouragement of them will be of great value I assure you.

          Just a Minute: -- Markos Moulitsas –better known as the editor of “The Daily Kos” – a liberal blog -- writes: “No doubt Democrats will suffer significant losses in next week’s elections.”  

He says the big question is whether they can hold the House And Senate… He sees optimists believing Democrats will hold their ground, while pessimists fear Democratic loss of both the House, and possibly the Senate – He says he’s with the pessimists.

West Virginia’s Governor Machin wants to be a Senator in a very close race. Pennsylvania’s seat currently occupied by Rino Specter… may go to GOP’s Toomy – but it’s also very close

Democrat Barbara Boxer has pulled ahead of Carly Fiorina in California – but neophyte Christine O’Donnell says she’s met lots of folks in Delaware in their 60’s pledging to vote for her.

A Newsweek poll late last week showed President Obama’s popularity on a rise suggesting the “enthusiasm” gap was closing… but Newsweek also points out in 1994 polls showed a similar steep climb in President Clinton’s numbers – still Democrats suffered a loss of 54 seats. – So who’s right?
