MR. SPEAKER SPEAKS SHARPLY -- for FRIDAY'S Just A Minute Radio 120323

We’ve done it again! Reached the end of a week… and a full week it has been.

No Kidding I was casting about for what needed to be said to ‘help the cause’ this week – and certainly not-politics came to mind. I guess it came to Speaker Boehner’s mind at the same time. – this was a couple of weeks back.  Peggy Noonan of the Wall St. Journal writes a weekly column that appears in the Saturday/Sunday edition and often takes a bit of a different turn from what else is on the air or in the newspapers. I guess she was talking with Speaker Boehner during some of the difficult days when Boehner’s trying to make progress and Mr. Obama is throwing roadblocks in his way.

So the world turns and Spotlight Harry Reid who leads the Senate just will not let anything of substance… like a budget … get through the Senate because he knows it will be ridiculed if he lets it slip and turns over the coffee pot.

That’s sort of what today’s program is all about. But I won’t give it away if you haven’t heard it yet. And I’ll just store up my jokes for another day.

Oh – there is one that got out of the bag.  It’s a Will Rogers story… He said, when asked where did he get all his Jokes from, His response: Oh *I* don’t make jokes… I just watch Congress and report the results!

I guess that’s as good answer as any – and better than most. (J)

We’ll see you again on Monday on the radio.  Don’t worry about the TV… it’s going out of style anyway!

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

MR. SPEAKER SPEAKS SHARPLY

Just a Minute: A couple of weeks back Peggy Noonan, the weekend columnist for the Wall St. Journal, spoke with Speaker John Boehner about the frustrations in being Speaker of the House.

During a Wednesday morning conversation containing coffee, cigarettes and BIG sighs, in the Speaker’ office, his frustrations were expressed in trying to herd 185 cats, when you could use a few more sheep – [my words not his.] However he did tell Ms. Noonan, (quote) “What the conference is feeling is the normal state of affairs for a majority that's frustrated by a president who doesn't want to work with us and a Senate that doesn't do the bills we send over. [So] the frustration builds and they get to nipping at each other. And so it was one of those mornings where you had to kind of reset the table." (Unquote)

He summarized his building frustration with a really big sigh and said that’s the picture of what sometimes goes on under the Capitol Dome.

          <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
