It’s early in the week yet – much to be observed, discussed and par-boiled before the weekend – and *maybe* a recess?
Now we see why Congress originally intended to be in session for a few months each year so they did not have to endure Washington during the summer and of course they had not been so *generous* with themselves in pay and perks – nor had they been able to travel home each weekend as they do now.
So we have the ‘never ending session’ punctuated by holidays and recesses and excuses – plus just not getting the work done: Example try to find last year’s budget… or the one before. But lassitude has been built into the system since day one.
In any case we are – IMO – going to keep dealing on this issue as long as there is time for something shorter-term that pushes back the deadline even further – until we get to the end of the session. I admit to being occasionally wrong about scheduling – and Congress and its operating schedule is *entirely* in the hands of each of the legislative bodies… so the basic rule is ‘nothing is likely to happen until it absolutely *has* to – and my best/worst guess is nothing much is going to happen for the next 12 to 14 months – and even that ‘short’ a time is treading heavily on the carpet of high expectations.
There can be extra ordinary happenings of course – like 9/11 was. But we can pray and hope for the best. Deaths and other serious things step forward to derail the schedule. I admit when he was making a mess of activities before his first election, I had thought Bill Clinton was the most vulnerable candidate the Democrats could offer. Boy was I wrong! I even could not see him getting a second term… by the way HOW did he do it? I’m not good at figuring out that kind of stuff. But the Lord takes care of us and HE is always in control. That is a given and a bedrock – and while you may not agree with it – in the end the Lord’s WILL will prevail.
Well… no I’m not going out on the limbs any further and making predictions – not because I’m unwilling or think I might be wrong… it’s just because I cannot see the end from the beginning as our Lord does. He IS in control… and we ARE in HIS hands!
God be with you… relax and trust in HIM all ye people!
Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”
“ERIC – DON’T CALL MY BLUFF!”
Just a Minute: Late on Wednesday afternoon, July 13th at
At that point – Cantor says – the President turned to me and said: “Eric, don’t call my bluff. – I’m going to take this to the American people.” Then he got up and left.
Cantor believes the President figured he could climb over the heads of the people and win on his powers of persuasion. On July 25th he made his move in TV prime time with a speech. Peggy Noonan observes: “Boy, it did not work!”
Noonan was President Reagan’s top speech writer. She knows speeches -- says they aren’t magic. (Quote) “[A speech is] only as good as the ideas it advances. Reagan had good ideas. Obama does not.”
So now we see behind the curtain – it’s ‘Wizard of Oz Time’. <> I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
