WHEN I WRITE ABOUT 'HOT' -- IT TURNS COOL! -- For Just A Minute Radio -- Friday 110715

Well… talk or write about ‘hot and sticky’ and it turns out to be a mostly overcast and cooler day. (J

I think that’s what’s also in the forecast for today – Friday. But the *real* weather people tell us it’ll get warm again next week and we still have more ‘dog days’ to endure. Seems like the same thing can be said about the coming election and all the stuff that attends it.  This has all the earmarks of one of the slowest and most convoluted election cycles in my life…

Well… maybe we can concentrate on something more pleasant.

My wife and I cut and ate a big chunk of one of those little ‘pint-sized’ seedless variety watermelons. It wasn’t as cool as I could have preferred it… but still tasty and cooling!  Be thankful for the blessings we have!

We have learned of several friends and folks we know who are undergoing stressful times with illnesses and indeed are not too far – from what the doctors tell them – of “going home” – for that’s what the friends and relatives we know who have put their trust in the Lord are looking forward to.  It *is* a real blessing to be able to think about the approaching end-of-this-life in that light. At our ages we have never experienced quite so many friends and families that we know who are facing that separation which is ‘temporary’ for those in the Lord’s hand – but is also a matter of real separation at least for a time.

Sometimes when I attend a funeral – or observe one via TV or some other way, I really wonder how people go through death and separation without a Saviour. And often when we’ve been in the company of those who do not profess salvation or belief in the afterlife, I think they must think we are irreverent because we quite often to not appear to be in deep mourning as do some who do not have hope in the Lord.

When I say ‘hope’ – I use it in the scriptural sense that conveys perhaps a time of being separated – but is cushioned and indeed relieved by *knowing* from the scriptures which are God’s words and instructions to us to NOT be afraid – but to be confident of walking through the ‘valley of the shadow’ with confidence and faith that HE *will* do everything HE has promised in HIS WORD.

Anyway – it is a surety based on HIS assurances that cannot fail – and is such a joy and assurance that Christians want to share the good news with all who will listen.

Ah well… back up on the podium again… thanks for listening… and REJOICE… for this is the day the Lord hath made – we will rejoice and be exceeding glad.

Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHEN I WRITE ABOUT “HOT” – IT TURNS COOL!

Just a Minute:  The President has been dangling a suspension of Social Security checks before Grandma and Grandpa, since a couple of columnists have written recently about how boring he has become. I guess this is his way of regaining national attention.

Since one good threat deserves another, Minnesota’s Gov. Mark Dayton, has threatened to withdraw licenses for “adult beverages” in his state – according to the Associated Press.

One of the major beer brands has 39 “brand label registrations” with the state and they all expired last month.  Employees who process that paperwork for renewals were laid off when the state shut down their office the first of July.  State alcohol enforcement officials, however, were not shut down.  They’re still on the job and have told officials in Chicago with the beet companies they need to pull their products off the shelves right away.

Hmmm… let’s see – They shut down the office that approves licenses but not the office that enforces licenses?  Sounds like a good way to reduce government to me.

Stay cool everybody… I’m Jack Buttram. (END)
