THE VOUCHER EXPRESS IS A LONG TIME COMING- for Just A Minute Radio - Tuesday 110707

Hi Folks…

Got a little ahead of myself this week.  When we have a holiday during the week – gets my head all bumfuzzled – but now that I’ve got it written… well – we’ll just keep on with it no matter that we will overrun our late night time tonight.  I’ll just put it in the cooler for 24 hours – maybe it’ll improve the flavor. The matter of school vouchers has been kickin’ around for quite a while.

We’ve had to run the flag up the pole and down again to see who’s really interested. Back in the ‘60’s the accusation was that it was ‘white schools’ just trying to give the slip to integration. Well… time proved that wrong.

For me it’s an incontestable fact that animals tend to ‘pack up’ – gather – whatever you want to call it, with like animals.  You’ll see two horses standing in the pasture together.  Sheep are similar in wanting to herd. I’m not an expert in animal husbandry … but it is observatble.

Three or four of us sit down to have a burger or Coke together… or breakfast… some guys will talk about the food, others will talk about fishing and still others about the Bible verses we read that morning at the prayer meeting.

Birds flock etc. and I think you could go through the whole animal kingdom and find similarities or differences. So people tend to group in their own kind. That’s why Christians like to have their children in schools taught by Christian teachers and with whom Christian parents can confer as well as enjoy the fellowship.

We noted in a county where we lived in North Carolina there was a Charter School.  Enrollment was limited… it’s still a public school and following the generally approved school goals…which may vary and are overall approved by the NC educational authorities. What griped me was the teacher’s union lobbied the legislature to ‘cap’ the enrollment and allow only one Charter school per county. (NC has 100 I think.) Other states that have started out that way have abandoned it. In most cases there’s no need. The school won’t get any bigger than it needs to be.

Well… there’s a lot more to be said… but I’m not the guy who has to say it; almost all of my children now have children of their own…and we’re pushing three generations now. I just get a bit ill when everybody seems to think they know more about someone else’s business than they obviously know about their own.

OK .. it’s “Git Down Of’n the SoapBox time.” So I will… but watch.  Thirteen states have adopted some kind of optional or Charter School kind of program for parents who don’t want to expose their kids to secular sex education and other stuff the “progressive’s” want to shower us with.  Let’s just try to get along…..OK?

“JUST A MINUTE”

THE VOUCHER EXPRESS IS LONG TIME COMING

Just a Minute: Some years ago I saw an outline of the educational voucher program on tracks correcting the ‘progressive’ educational hold on public education.

When I completed high school and looked into prospects for my higher education I saw problems and conflicts. Private education on the university level was well beyond my grasp – but I was able to enroll in a privately funded university within our family’s financial abilities, for which I’m very thankful. I also saw mistakenly aimed education which I wanted to avoid – and later, as a father, I did not want it for my children.

The option of voucher-choice education at earlier school levels, at an affordable cost, now allows children to avoid being instructed by government goals -- but trained within the family’s preferences. This was a principled train on an excellent track and for more than 40 years families have been able to guide their children’s training. Thirteen states now include this option in their programs with both improved costs and results.  For this I praise the Lord!
