Well, once more into the political jungle Dear Friends –
And it seems to be getting more convoluted day by day. I’m not exactly sure just what the Iowa ‘straw poll’ did last week…Did you hear -- you might let me know.
We go through a LOT of knotholes to make sure New Hampshire is THE FIRST actual primary in the year 2012 – but we have straw votes in Iowa… and various polls touted as the same as the real thing – etc. etc.
Here’s my “Johnny One-Note” solution again – call up #10 Downing Street in London and ask the voice who answers to send you the best packet of material that will help put the USA on the right road of having a *much shorter* voting season especially during the years we have presidential primary voting. Maybe we can start a grass-roots fire that will take on the public’s imagination.
Today’s program deals with 4 switched votes in New York State last week that allowed a previously rejected same sex act vote that had been roundly defeated before, to pass – and that through a state legislature controlled by the Democrats before the last primary… and then showing the GOP had a one vote edge in the Senate this time – and frankly I’ve never heard of such a mealy-mouth bag of excuses. However up there in NY State they have to learn to keep their talking time down in the winter or risk frozen tonsils. (L)
Well, we can’t win ‘em all…but we can shore try. This past week I got the first prediction that President Obama will be returned to office – and that always takes the edge off the day. But we will continue on and see this thing through to the end. In order to be polite I didn’t put forth any effort to change my informant’s attitude – because it’s a small town and we want everybody to be friends with everyone else. But that tradition seems to be going out of style… or at least becoming to often utilized.
Well – gotta toddle off to bed. Got up early on the 4th… and now it’s the 5th… God bless you and your family.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack
“JUST A MINUTE”
WE DECIDED TO SWITCH SIDES
Just a Minute: Four New York State Republican Senators switched their votes Friday from opposing same-sex marriage to an affirmative vote. Spokesmen for the New York State Conservative Party said those men would definitely not get the Conservative Party’s support in the next election.
James S. Alesi, (elected 1996)
Best guess is some will lose and some will stay in the Senate next time. NY City Mayor Bloomberg supports the same-sex act, Governor Andrew Cuomo has not yet formally announced his position. Up to now it’s been a stormy back and forth contest with the GOP controlling the Senate by one vote.
