Hard to believe – Thanksgiving Day almost here and no turkey…
Ah… I’ve had several delicious turkey dinners so far – but still ready for another. (I think it’s the cranberry sauce which does it!) I have found out however, there’s no cure for over-eating either pumpkin OR sweet potato pie. I’ve heard some jazz that demeans at the expense of the other – but I think that shortsighted. I’ve tasted them both – and most times they are *both* excellent. But I do like the pie with a brief crust of nuts, and a touch of molasses. (Now I’m getting picky and out of my field.) Plus a dollop of well-whipped cream is never wasted on me!
[The correct word to use is NOT wasted. That is far too close to waisted – which has it own gastronomical delights and hazards. Now the way I went on there you might think I weigh close to 300 pounds. L Well… you’d be *wrong*! But you wouldn’t have been if I’d kept on the ‘clean your plate – think of the ‘starving children in
Nonetheless (oh yes… really quite a bit less!) My good friends Drs. Tom – and before him Dr. Jim – strongly advised me – advised our family really… but I was first in the line of fire – that we should be parsimonious with our forks and spoons if we didn’t want to have our family mark be like the ‘round tires like the moon’. So I DID finally trim down to 185 which is *perfect* for my height. However, since I’ve started shrinking – that means weight must be reduced too… at least I *think* that’s required if you’re to maintain the right ratio… anyway… back to the diet table. Let’s all be more moderate in our intake.
Now I’ve got to go run down the things I want to have aired here on Just A Minute during Thanksgiving. Thank YOU for our ideas and correspondence. We (Barbara and I look forward to your communications via e-mail fax or whatever… Thanks for being our good “air” friends.
Cordially, IN HIM

BRODER SAYS NO COMPROMISE IS IN VIEW FOR SENATE
Just a Minute: The outlook for Senate action after Thanksgiving is – according to David Broder in the Washington Post, quite grim. He says under the present circumstances and Senate the atmosphere occasioned by six new Republicans plus a GOP House majority after January third there’s not a sign of compromise to be found.
In fact Broder –dean of the congressional correspondents – says Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell: (quote) “Holds as much sway [in the Senate] as the President of the
With the Christmas economy just limping along, and high unemployment rates not budging – he says it makes no sense to even be talking about a broad tax increase. But if Obama and McConnell’s horns continue locked, the fight over this and ratification of the Start Treaty coupled with everything else, Broder says the GOP leader is signaling he’s ready to fight right up to the 2012 election.
The only possible mitigating factor might be the public *demanding* Congress get off the dime and “do something.”
