WHY PRAY WHEN YOU CAN WORRY? Just A Minute Radio for Friday 05-08-09

            Howdy everybody…

Spring is finally a-springin’ with a vengeance if you’re to mark all the down limbs in our yard and on the roof. I guess it’s nature’s pruning time and God certainly has mighty shears. We also got a goodly amount of rainwater on Tuesday but I guess the lakes still need filling up and they say the ground water aquifer won’t be recharged for several years because of the prolonged draught we’ve experienced.

Speaking of prolonged… I guess we’re *all* tired of the war and now it’s seeping over in a noisy fashion into Afghanistan and where it’s always been incipient in Pakistan – plus the killers of babies and innocent civilians in Bagdad continue to ply their murderous trade. The only believable explanation that I can fathom is Satan thrashing about seeing how many he can destroy because soon his time is up.

We listened to an audio book** on the way back from Florida last week… and it was a rather disturbing thing to contemplate. The author – dealing with the run-up to the last days, dealt with wickedness, deception and depravity pressed one on top of another… all in all a very depressing outlook were it not for continually being reminded that God *is* still on the throne. He created the entire universe and still controls it for His ultimate purpose expressing His love for us while demonstrating His Love, Justice and Mercy. If you read the books of Kings and Chronicles – or the whole of the Old Testament for that matter. You – like I – will wonder at the patience, love and Holiness of God coupled with his forgiveness and Justice. It’s amazing!

But I suppose no human can really come close to depicting what God has created and our imaginations lack the breadth and depth to receive those things with which He will ultimately involve us. If you’ll turn aside and meditate on God’s word and be instructed by the Holy Spirit it is genuinely exciting and glorifying to the Lord.

“In this world you *will* have tribulation – but be of good cheer – I have overcome the world.”  An excellent verse for students to keep before them while exam time rolls around.

We’ll look for you Monday – God bless us all!

            IN HIM

** It wasn’t the bargain I had expected especially when “Cracker Company” tacked on exorbitant ‘late’ fees. It was our first time and will be our last --  I won’t make that mistake again! Get somebody to read a book to you in your own family.

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHY PRAY WHEN YOU CAN WORRY?

JUST A MINUTE – A National Day of Prayer proclamation was issued by the White House yesterday. No other event was held.

Shirley Dobson, heading the National Day of Prayer Task Force, and wife of Dr. James Dobson, host of “Focus on the Family” broadcast said: "We are disappointed in the lack of participation by the Obama administration....At this time in our country's history; we would hope our President would recognize more fully the importance of prayer."

The President deliberately distanced himself from any ceremony cancelling an early morning service and no visit to a large Catholic prayer breakfast Friday morning was on his schedule. The President’s spokesman would only say the President signed a proclamation for the National Day of Prayer, which originated 57 years ago when Congress designated it for the first Thursday in May.

For the last eight years President Bush invited selected Christian and Jewish leaders to the White House East Room,  where he gave a short speech and prayers were offered… calling to mind John 12:26: …”If any man will serve (or honour) me, him will my Father honour.
