PRAYING OR PRAISING NOT PERMITTED - For Friday -- May 29, 2009

Howdy at the end of another week…

Seems like this past week has consisted of ‘picking up the pieces’ of the explosions that have happened in the past few days. We have bankruptcies and benchmarks (as in Supreme Court’s bench) that have all been on the front burner every day this week. I’m thinking the whole public is getting burned out on these insoluble problems – but they don’t have a *focus* on what to do about it.

After you hear today’s report, perhaps you’ll get a focus and take pen in hand or pick up the phone to communicate with your favorite lawmaker to express your approval, or deep concerns. In either case – it’s that process – that causes the pot to begin to boil. Mix that with the heady foam called ‘representative government’ and you have the quintessential spirit of America’s genius of self-government. We don’t have it 100% right even half of the time – but it comes closer than most of the other major governments of the world.

Well, enough of my sermonizing… be sure and listen in and register your reaction however you think best.

          Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

PRAYING OR PRAISING NOT PERMITTED

JUST A MINUTE – A San Diego Pastor, is threatened by a County official with escalating fines if they continue to hold Bible studies in their home, reported a local TV station. According to The Western Center For Law & Policy the county interrogation went like this:

Do you have regular meetings in your home? – Yes.

Do you say, ‘Amen?’ – Yes.

Do you pray? – Yes.

Do you say praise the Lord? - Yes.

So the county notified the Pastor and his wife the 15 person Bible study, was in violation of county regulations, and they received a written warning listing "unlawful use of land" and admonishing them to "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit".  – Which could possibly cost in excess of several thousand dollars.

News of the case has spread across Internet blogs and the American Family Association – at www.afa.net.
