GOD ORDERS THE END FROM THE BEGINNING - Just A Minute Radio for Monday May 25th 2009

A very good Monday to all!

Here we are at the beginning of a new week – all rarin’ to go. It’s MEMORIAL DAY. One of our ‘misplaced’ holidays I’m afraid… along with President’s day and Veteran’s Day and other holiday’s that get ‘slud’ off their ‘real’ days and moved into a ‘long weekend’ slot. I think it kinda messes up the calendar – and certainly makes things difficult for the trash collectors to have their days all scrambled up. But such is the price of progress – at least we haven’t been submerged in the metric system yet.

Some years back I was just completely impressed with the effort some of the Veterans of WW I (back a few years there were more WW One Vets still around – now they are very rare) who went to great pains to make sure every veteran’s grave in the municipality where my wife grew up flew an American Flag on Memorial Day, July 4th and Armistice Day (Nov. 11th – the end of WW I). Most of these fellows were in their late 80’s and beyond. Of course it was difficult for them to do the flag placements – so they were vigilant in trying to recruit Boy Scouts and others to be sure no one’s loved ones were forgotten. I was really struck by their dedication to the memory of their Veteran buddies.

We lose a lot of that in today’s society. Even among our own family members – it’s difficult to remember and make the effort. But I was reminded of the efforts made by some of my cousins to make sure their parents are remembered as well as other relatives. Of course we don’t have to be ‘slavish’ about that – but it warms the heart nonetheless to see younger folks remembering the efforts, time and treasure put into their lives. Our nation – our society is much the poorer because of the decrease in remembrance.

America is a different nation than it was 50-60 years ago – no doubt about it. But we could do better and be better if we recall the sacrifices made on our behalf and put something into the recall. It never hurts to be thankful.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

GOD ORDERS THE END FROM THE BEGINNING

JUST A MINUTE – If Bible believers hold true to our profession, we believe God orders all things in His time and for His purpose. Re-reading some not-so-distant history, I’m impressed that Michael Reagan’s words:  "I believe that everything happens in God's time and His time and our time are not always on the same plane. We wanted my father to get the nomination and win in '76 but God had other plans. Now, looking back, those plans are clear as they were not at the time... If Dad had won in ‘76, who would have been in place then to bring about the momentous events in the 80s that saw the Evil Empire destroyed?”

Michael reminds us none of the key players were onstage when the senior Reagan was defeated in his bid for the Republican nomination in 1986. Mrs. Thatcher was not the British prime minister… Mikhail Gorbachev was not Russia’s leader, and Lech Walesa was just an electrician in a Polish shipyard. Everyone is here by God’s arrangement.

On this Memorial Day – let us remember, God was in charge then and He hasn’t changed.
