REMEMBER OUR HONORED DEAD -- Just a Minute Radio for May 22, 2009

Hello at the end of the week… with a holiday in prospect!

There’s a great anticipation around our house for the beginning of Summer… which I always take happens about Memorial Day even though it isn’t officially here until June 26 at 1:46AM for you early risers. The seasons always seem to be lagging a bit for my taste… but then I don’t design the calendars… and it’s a good thing too!

I know Veteran’s Day – which in my growing up years was called Armistice Day – and I don’t really appreciate this messing around with the real holiday days – Veteran’s day comes in November 11th on my calendar. It’s one of the few dates I can remember since I was coached on it in Elementary School – Wasena School in Roanoke, Virginia. Funny… other historical notes don’t stick in my brain so well.

But I believe time just flees too fast … especially as we get older. It’s like watching the telephone poles speed by on a train picking up speed. But then most of you havn’t been on a real passenger train either. Ah well… we’ll have to pick some new pictures.

Anyway… I suggest we begin this holiday with a good picnic and grillin’ if that suits your fancy. But above all get the family together if you can and thank the Lord for the blessings we have. They are many – and they may be fleeting. I won’t dampen the occasion any more than that… Rejoice…and again I say rejoice!  For the Lord is at hand. Amen.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

REMEMBER OUR HONORED DEAD.

JUST A MINUTE – "Once each May, amid the quiet hills and breeze-brushed trees of Arlington Cemetery …  the graves of America's military dead are decorated with the flag … these brave souls followed and loved. The scene is repeated … wherever our defenders rest. Let us hold our sacred duty and our privilege … to have fervent prayers and a pledge of total allegiance to the cause of liberty, peace, and country …

Our pledge today is that those of free men and women who know all we hold dear, must be constantly built up … and guarded vigilantly from those in every age, who seek its destruction. We know … peace does not exist without the essential elements of liberty, justice and independence. They are the true foundation stones ... lone and lasting. They light the way blazed by those whom we honor and remember this weekend.

To keep faith with our hallowed dead, let us be sure, and very sure, today and every day … we keep their cause, their hope, their prayer, forever our Nation’s own." – President Ronald Reagan.
