WANDERFUL WONDA - Just a Minute Radio - May 15, 2009

Hello Everybody – ‘Tis Friday Once Again… and we’re closer than ever before!

It’s been a confusing but exhilarating week. Around Greenville, we have friends who live near and work at Bob Jones and this week was the changeover time from school year to summer school. So… that means a lot of coming and going plus sending a grandson whose family is in Hawaii off on another flight out that way – and sometimes welcoming people we’ve known before who are coming back for graduate work or special classes in the Summer. It always seems to have the feeling of Spring!

Additionally we were married in May of 1953… so it was a new beginning for us – and I guess those old stirrings of days a half-century old (Did I *really* say that?) remain fresh in the subconscious. Anyway it’s like having a warm Christmas which will be repeated in the Fall when a new (and old) crop of students return to the campus area. It’s just a part of living and we like it.

For another thing… it gives us something else to concern ourselves with than the usual economic problems or the weather, or the drought, or the war… all those things go on too… but it’s nice to have something more pleasant to think about and on which to concentrate. It’s also the time of summer camps. And I dearly remember as a young teen in the 40’s going off to Boy Scout Camp in the Blue Ridge. I can still work up excitement about that. The old saying is: You can take the boy out of the mountains – but you can’t take the mountains out of the boy. My wife will testify to that…since on our quite short honeymoon 56 years ago she got car sick from me driving her through the mountains of Western North Carolina – but was too embarrassed or timid to say anything about it. I thought she was just sick of me already.

If you’re encouraging newly-weds… just forget it. They never remember anything you say anyway – they’re too occupied with one another.

Have a good weekend… and keep the world turning until the Lord returns.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WANDERFUL WONDA

JUST A MINUTEWanda Sykes, spoke at the White House Correspondents Dinner last Saturday evening breaking with the traditional spirit of the annual event which usually pokes good-natured barbs at the incumbent president. She gave him a couple of soft tweaks, then aimed her flame-thrower at former VP Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh – totally skipping fellow African-American Colin Powell or any other person of color.

She accused Rush of treason, recalling his admitted bout with the pain killer Oxycontin – adding she “hoped his kidneys failed” and suggesting he needs “waterboarding” and was possibly was the 20th hijacker. Even MSNBC’S - Larry O’Donnell, and the McLaughlin Group’s - Eleanor Clift, assessed her performance as either over the top or excessively harsh.

Other liberal observers found it “disappointing” to see him laughing and smiling during the Limbaugh segment – and supporters are just slightly embarrassed, he came to town promising to "change the tone" from bitter partisan attacks. The venomous criticism simply made Democrat-dominated Washington appear uncivilized and nasty.

He could, if he would, say “I’m sorry.”
