We’re still on the up-side of the week. ---
But the inevitable nay-sayers that pop up as election time draws near are here. And almost inadvertently some of those we think of as ‘on our side’ have stepped on their own shoe strings and stumbled across the lines.
First, it was Karl Rove on Tuesday night a week ago, when he came on Sean Hannity’s program to say he had been counting on winning control of the Senate – and ‘now look what you’ve done.’ Oliver, lecturing Hardy in the old black and white comedies – “Now look what a mess you’ve gotten us into.”
No sooner do I get my dry powder ready to let him have a shot across the bow when our friend Charlie Krauthammer steps off into the same sink-hole. Krauthammer can’t seem to see the huge tidal wave building out beyond the breakers that I believe is going to crash ashore on the Democrats like the one in Indonesia did several years ago and took half the population almost out to sea.
Kraut thinks control of the Senate is the *most* important thing. I disagree. I realize he gets paid a
First, we knew getting the Senate back was going to be a LOT harder than getting the House again. I’m guessing that will still be true because from the beginning we knew we had to win 10 seats to regain a ‘perilous’ majority. Getting control of one House will be sufficient for the time being and give us a chance to get ‘back in the saddle again.’ There’s going to have to be a LOT of re-education about the snarkiness of ‘earmarks’ – and cutting down Congressmen’s favorite projects etc. etc.—if we’re going to work ourselves out of the current mess that may be even worse by the time we get a chance at the helm. A couple of years of ‘legislative lockjaw’ will be welcome so we can regain our equilibrium.’
So… I move we concentrate on doing the *right* thing… not spending more than we have no matter how tempting the grass looks on the other side of the fence. We need to get our hands back on the fiscal wheel if we mean what we say we mean about reducing spending and smaller government. It means a *great deal of educating* the average voter and coming back to earth for the common citizen to effect the kind of correction that will bring us back to a sustainable situation.
I don’t claim to have all the answers – but I do know a half-hearted effort which results when we do what is the politically expedient thing: Example: George Bush going up to PA to campaign for Arlen Specter six years ago when Pat Toomey was running not a smart move – Bush should not have done it. Look at the misery it’s caused. But they wanted to ‘save’ Specter. It was a mistake, and I think GWB would agree. So… let’s don’t go down that road again Mr. Rove. Voting for Mr. Castle in
OK … it’s “Get down from the soapbox time again.” I always have these *do the right thing* -- not the expedient thing, banging around in my brain. I don’t think I’m smarter than he is, I guess somewhere along the way [I credit my parents mostly.] … that’s the fork in the road I have to take. I think that’s the kind of thing that’s underlying the hoped-for success I believe we stand on the brink of achieving … if we don’t get impatient and kick over the traces. You non-farm folks will have to get that translated. Enough hot air from me for today… I’m hoping the cool winds of Autumn will soon be here… can’t come too soon.
Cordially, IN HIM

Karl Rove, and over last weekend, Charles Krauthammer, have fallen prey to their own self-created problems. Unable to grasp the law of reverse effect – they fail to recognize what William Shakespeare put on parchment prior around four centuries ago about Queen Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother. Her observation: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” … confirmed Hamlet’s suspicion about his father’s murder. Similar suspicion is abroad today.
We need no more ‘summer soldiers’ or sunshine patriots’ in determining to protect our blessed Republic.
