JUST WHO *IS* IN CONTROL ANYWAY -- Just A Minute Radio for Monday 100913:

The noise in the news is so great it’s hard to tell what’s going on – for real.

Some days you have to resort to ear plugs when trying to sort out the news.  The biggest story in the news these days is all over the map.  Almost every day there’s a new *key* story being touted in a major newspaper or on one of the news networks… with the admonition we should be keen on observing that race.

Just this past week we’ve had a plethora of stories about the race in Delaware ‘tightening’ up. The contest is for the Senate Seat vacated two years ago when Joseph Biden – once the youngest Senator in the Senate, vacated his seat for the State of Delaware in order to take his elected place to the Vice Presidency.  So first… a ‘place holder’ was appointed – just as one was for President Linc… uhh… Obama who was elevated from the Senate to the Presidency.  And there’s been a scramble, a trial, and a huge hoo-hah about the ripening scandal originating in northern Illinois.  Who is going to win his seat?  The candidate endorsed by the Democrat party seems to have difficulty, and the one endorsed by the GOP isn’t as well off… And what about the one from the Tea Party? …. Well her name isn’t a household word either – but she’s running against the Party Pick… and all of a sudden it looks like there’s enough time for that race to tighten to a real cliff-hanger.

Altogether, if you look at the pink and blue and white interactive maps on the Internet… it’s still pretty hard to know what’s going to happen… except *almost* everyone is agreed it’s going to be tough on the Democrats and probably upsets on expectations of the GOP.

Where does that leave us?  Well… with a small fish on a very long pole, thrashing about with almost everyone and his brother being caught up in being predictors… You have your choice between EXCITEMENT or CONFUSION – or more likely some of both. As the number of days remaining shortly will slip below thirty it will get even more frantic. We may run out of soothing syrup – unless you just decide it’s time to pay attention to the playoffs and the World Series… or get caught up in the NFL seasons or college and professional pigskins. Or maybe you’re going to give it up and read “War and Peace”  -- at the pace I read that’ll take me right through to Thanksgiving.

I’d just suggest you discount what everybody is saying about the election by half – and relax. It’ll all begin to sort itself out after Christmas…. And that’s something to look forward to. Don’t sweat the BIG stuff… it’s not worth it. (J)

“JUST A MINUTE”

JUST WHO IS IN CONTROL ANYWAY?

Just a Minute: -- Reality repeats:

David Broder, and George Will, are both syndicated newspaper columnists, appearing in the Washington Post.

In his Sunday column, Will, paraphrases Churchill’s famous WWII quote on the battle of Britain and RAF pilots: “Never have so many owed so much to so few.”

It was abbreviated to this era as: “Never have so many owed so much.”

At the same time, Broder, who then wrote for the Washington Evening Star, was assigned to the White House during JFK’s presidency– he says Kennedy, “…gave one of the best political speeches I ever heard, a plea for religious tolerance … [while] a little-known minister [in Florida has] been threatening to burn copies of the Koran to strike a blow against Muslims.

Maybe it shows we’re not so bad off protecting our
“Constitutional Freedoms” as we think. Even I had a closet-size office on ‘K’ Street where big time lobbyists usually hang out – we were arguing against proposals setting rules for Christian School’s employment.  And we won.

So if you’re a Bible-believer re-read WHO is in control.

¨      I’m Jack Buttram.
