Good Day to everybody! It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
Things a-getting’ a bit seedy in the yard. Grass in the flowerbeds goes so quickly to seed. I try but even in a small plot I fall behind the weeding schedule. I just hope the birds get well fed… this is the grass seed season I’d say. But I don’t guess they can store it away as the squirrels are reported to do. I know the little varmits dig up the garden patch in little holes… I wonder if they find anything? Can’t imagine they are hungry this time of year unless they don’t have a taste for green acorns or other nuts. I also wonder if their fabled memory of where they buried their treasure is true?
I’m sure the corn farmers are glad to see them quit… after they ruined so many roastin’ ears. It’s not like you could reserve a stalk or a row for them… they – like the rabbits -- go and sample (read that ‘ruin’) as many as they desire.
There’s a hibiscus plant my wife bought back in the spring that had great promise of many buds and blooms so I put it on the patio -- and the little pests came and bit off about half the buds before they bloomed and after a while the little plant gave up trying to bloom at all but proceeded to produce a prodigious amount of leaves… but no more buds or blooms.
Meanwhile the birds enjoy the chicken wire shield I built around the plant. But the squirrels simply continue to steal the sunflower seeds from the bird feeder… if they can… just another garden irritant… and its supposed to be such a calming hobby. (L)
My gutters are already full… and while the leaves fell all during late June and early July when things were so dry… they’ve almost quit now … and I need to get some limb trimming done before too long… I’m ready to have the fall leaf harvest over with… but no sense pushing the season… things will be leafy enough soon enough.
Clogged gutters… grrr… too much cost to cover them… too much trouble to clean them. I’m settling on just taking them off. (J)
Have a great day… and I don’t think the ‘cane will get here to the upstate except maybe to give us some more rain.
All the best… Cordially… IN HIM,
Jack

“JUST A MINUTE”
HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER THE PRESENTS ARE OPEN?
Just a Minute: -- Do you remember how you felt when the Christmas presents were all opened? -- Nothing to look forward to? That was repeated Tuesday after the President’s Oval office discourse concluded.
A letter-writer to Brian Williams of NBC, expressed it about like this: “Mr. President how did you feel learning Glenn Beck could draw a crowd of three hundred thousand or more on the anniversary of the Dr. King ‘I have a dream,’ speech? --- Mr. Williams, apparently you and the President and share common ground in admitting you didn’t watch it – well, I did… and you should admit there was nothing anti-government or anti-Obama there. It was all about honoring our veterans and our troops, and restoring honor to our country. It wasn’t a political gathering – the bias you both share is clear as ever… and sickening.”
He continued: I'm certainly not anti-government, and I am certain that Mr. Beck's rally had nothing to do with anarchy, or anti-Obama rhetoric. I am certain because I watched and listened. Maybe you ought to try it.”
