A DELAWARE WIN? -- NAH, YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE. - Just A Minute Radio for Thursday 100916

Well… great to have you here on Thursday.

The political chatter has reached a frenzy – with Karl Rove stepping in it – and Mitch McConnell reversing his stand – and all the various hues of Republicans trying to figure out where they stand on things within or without, or just keeping their heads down. Ms. Perrino – the last Bush Press Secy --  Decided early on Wednesday she wasn’t quite as off-handed as she had been on Tuesday night and proposed Ms. Christine O'Donnell may have enough push after all to squeak out a victory.

Suddenly on Wednesday morning when the Republican establishment woke up to what was drifting away if they didn’t cast a line on it, was what they had done for Joe Miller in AK  – saying they would come through with $250,000 – they would now also match that in a heartbeat to O'Donnell's campaign – despite Karl Rove’s startling assessment that they were “in a race they could not win.”

Some of this information we siphon from the notorious Huff-Po, since we figure they’ll discount whatever’s floating in the Washington whispers enough to make it not an off-the-wall piece. So now O'Donnell, who last week was nearly anathema, has suddenly blossomed into “possible life” so they won’t be caught in the rip tide that could carry a lot of negative pundits out to sea.

The Tea Party Express has now added O'Donnell to a list of victorious GOP Senate primary candidates which includes, Nevada's Sharron Angle, Florida's Marco Rubio, Kentucky's Rand Paul, and Utah's Mike Lee, who knocked over  veteran GOP Senator Bob Bennett.

In other contests -- Carl Paladino, who won New York's GOP gubernatorial primary contest over former Congressman Rick Lazio, who had been the establishment’s pick also rode the tidal wave of the Tea Partiers for his take on going after taxes. Paladino revised his victory speech to say his win showed "New Yorkers are mad as [explative]," and he forecast a "people's revolution" on the way.

Up in the Granite state of New Hampshire, GOP Ovide Lamontagne – another Tea Party backed candidate started off well early on but eventually Kelly Ayotte, backed by Sarah Palin crossed the finish line with the most votes.

Possibly the biggest winner of the evening was Senator Jim DeMint, of Greenville, South Carolina, who has joined the ranks of the prospective king-makers and his powerful endorsement made the NH race razor-thin close.

Meantime Democrats seem to be clapping each other on the shoulder with encouragement – hoping things won’t be as bad as they fear, but always taking stock of what somebody else is saying. And “Searchlight” Harry – the bright-light dim bulb from Nevada, is determined to attach a “Pick a Number” billion-dollar legislative proposal to the Defense Authorization Bill and most likely push the whole she-bang into the lame-duck session. At least that’s the most up-to-date bulletin from the “Searchlight” Harry Reid camp.

All of that’s too much to remember… so forget it – it’ll change by tomorrow morning. (L)

            That’s politics folks!

“JUST A MINUTE”

A DELAWARE WIN? NAH, YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE.

Just a Minute: -- All the pundits and even some friends said: “We don’t think you can get there from here.” Like the old farmer who was asked directions by the city slicker.

Could we just take a look at *some* of the records.  Massachusetts – Scott Brown; the Virginia Governor’s race; Senator Reid’s opponent; what do they all have in common?  The predictions were/are – “Impossible – can’t happen – Nope.”

Matter of fact that’s what they told us in Greenville County back in the ‘70s – We didn’t know enough about politics – we were new comers. Just pay your dues but sit in the back please.

Well, back then, we called it the “Fundamentalist Forum.” We made mistakes and unnecessary enemies… but we corrected that, and put together a majority political effort. We’ve seen it happen before… and it can happen again. It’s like a BIG wave – you either ride with it or get overrun by it. It’s happening folks. Praise the Lord.
