Hello again…
Busy week ahead? We have one. It’s my wife Barbara’s 60th HS graduation class reunion. Yes… the New York Times may not take note of it… but we hope the Easton Express covering all the news that’s fit to print in
This seems to be the season when we were often on the road as a young family. School is out… we liked to go camping and in the early years had to make do with the camping equipment that was much more like home-made… and not the lightweight things you can easily carry from your local Wal-Mart. It was a lovely time with lots of memories – mostly good! The kids got to spend time with Grandma and Grandpa… which they loved… I’m not so sure about Grandma and Grandpa.
In any case I’m running some back numbers of JUST A MINUTE this week to make it a bit easier to get away. I hope you’ll like what you hear. Perhaps it’ll be a welcome break from most of the bleaks or battered news.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack
PS – Oh yes… I’d forgotten. I can’t seem to get rid of the gremlins that mess up my audio links – so we’re going back to the old way of posting them here… but we’ll hold on to posting the script also.

“JUST A MINUTE”
A CASE OF SELF DEFENSE
Just A Minute – Here’s a story we ran almost two years ago.
George Dickert - 44 - was at home in
“I’ll shoot!” said the son. They fled. The senior Dickert sent four shots after them to make sure they got the message.
Shortly,
George said he’d been instructing his son about guns since he was six, “To take away his curiosity,” Dickert added.
Some national media have reported communities where laws have been strengthened and homeowners prepare to defend themselves, there’s a significant decrease in crime.
Maybe it’s not for everyone – but the robbers don’t know who’s prepared and who isn’t. Besides making sense, it seems to level the playing field.

I don't claim to be an expert in such matters, but based on what I have read, if a criminal is within twenty feet or so, even with a weapon in your hand, he can be on you before you can respond (reaction time). My understanding is that even at thirty feet away, they can be one you in less than two seconds.
By giving them warning, he gave the advantage to the criminals it seems to me. The young man is very lucky that they ran away instead of towards him. It might have been more prudent to use deadly force against the criminals under those circumstances while the advantage was his. Fortunately, in this case, the criminals choose to retreat and the young man and his father survived.
