Well… HAPPY TAX DAY everybody….
See… when you’re broke – tax day isn’t such a bother… You know nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin’ – so you’re just as well off when you finish as when you started. Well… perhaps I exaggerate a bit.
But afterall… money is only a medium of exchange – and if we managed to get into this world without it… I guess we can go out the same way… only it might make the undertaker’s job more difficult.
You are familiar with the saying… nothing’s certain but Death and… Fill in the blank. I’m here to tell you today… there’s something more certain and more cheerful or at the very least hopeful. I refer you to the book of Hebrews in the New Testament part of your Bible. If you’ll examine that carefully you’ll find it turns out to be the most hopeful book for people who’ve never encountered the Bible before.
Experienced missionaries say tribal people who have never encountered the Gospel story before are most often thrilled to find the pagan or uncertain ways of salvation that have come down through uncertain paths and provide little in the way of assurance their pagan prayers will be answered – can be set aside through the words of that portion of scripture that reveals how God purposed to show mankind through the messages of the prophets and the fulfillment we’ve just been through at Easter time that Christ, the Lamb of God… provided the sacrifice for those who will believe in Him that is perfect and all fulfilling – that never has to be repeated for salvation.
This verse seems to me to be one of the most striking. Chapter 7 of Hebrews verse 25 – “Wherefore, He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them,” The job is completed. Death has been defied through the perfect work of Christ – which never needs to be repeated. What a joy to rest in that knowledge backed up by the Creator and sustainer of the Universe.
Cordially, IN HIM
Jack
