ASHAMED OF CHRIST - OR... : Just A Minute Radio -- for Friday 04-17-09

            Hello Again….

We’re getting further into Spring – and looks like a beautiful day – at least most of it.

However, on the register of what’s happening during the President’s first 100 days – a rather fake deadline anyway – things are somewhat cloudy. People who measure these things and keep track are firming up an opinion that despite running as a person who could “bring the country together” there has not been a leader who has been more polarizing than Mr. Obama in recent history.

Now it’s true beyond question, the President weathered a test of considerable import in the Pirate Incident on the Somalia coast. And experienced observers are generally agreed he was fortunate – some would even say lucky. I would give him credit for keeping his head and being a cool and steady hand at the tiller. It could have easily been mistaken for uncertainty.

Next time the Barbary Cousins promise not to be so graciously understanding. Perhaps we have allowed our misunderstanding of the brutality and criminal aspects of piracy to send our brains into soft-focus. Despite the good P/R generated for Blackbeard and company by Peter Pan and Patch… piracy remains in the annals of history as a very wicked, immoral and criminal threat – that was dealt with in the Presidency of one of America’s least interventionist Presidents – Tom Jefferson – very decisively. In that case he served very well.

All the same the boat does seem to be rocking. Shallows are ahead and tough reefs for the ship of state. And it’s hard to really imagine what will happen globally to the world’s finances which have never been put through the tasks we are asking of them. I’m not at all confident of governmental policy – it is certainly not a panacea and to quote surviving sea captains… it pays to “Keep a weather eye.” But even more prudent in my way of viewing it is to concentrate on the things that are eternal rather than temporal. We *know* this world will come to an end – and we believe – because of scriptural and historical teaching, Christ will return to rule in peace and joy. We just see through that glass dimly.

Let us be assured by the Holy Spirit and the Blood of the Lord Jesus.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

ASHAMED OF CHRIST OR …

JUST A MINUTE – A religiously offensive event resulted from the President’s speech at Georgetown University Wednesday. The White House demanded Jesus’ name be covered in Gaston Hall, so a black piece of plywood covered “I H S” – Greek abbreviation for Jesus Christ – or “Ichthus.”

Then in the comments which appeared between eight and nine last night on the Internet: (quote) Are we paying homage to a man DEGRADING the name and the face of our savior Jesus Christ?... People don’t know and realize what their eternity will be by denying … God[‘] Son. Mark 8:38 says: "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." … Georgetown University SHAME! No religious institutions where God and His name are honored should comply with any governmental request of [this] degree; … WAKE UP, ask Jesus for HELP and forgiveness!” (unquote)

It’s noted there was no such White House requirement when Laura Bush spoke in the same spot on the Georgetown campus.
