WHEN THE PARTY'S OVER -- SOME SWITCH PARTIES - Just A Minute for Tuesday 101207

Well… how de doo… it’s a nice morning for yew – and me too!

Today’s JUST A MINUTE contributes to the tales of “turning over in one’s grave” as I call to mind the concrete mind-set of my relatives who long have lived right ‘cher in the UPLANDS of South Carolina and the craggy lands of North Carolina.

These were the lands of first the Indians – and then the white settlers who came and began farming the bottom lands and as their families grew they had to go higher up in the hollers… where the sun didn’t shine so bright and the land was rough and rocky – It was hard for a family of four or five living in a two room and an attic log cabin with grease-paper windows… heated only by a hearth – a cleared out patch of land enough to raise some corn and taters… and pick up chestnuts to take to market… that was about the only cash crop – and you had to fight off the pigs for the chestnuts…

Well… that land produced a lot of hard scrabble farmers… and tough men who were good with a squirrel rifle – and didn’t want a distant Warshinton a-tellin’ them whut they could do and coun’t.

All of that precedes what we talk about today  on JUST A MINUTE because those times they are a-changin’ – and today we talk about one minute – and pack into that some of the things that have changed in my lifetime and yours… and they’re still a-changin’… and there’s still a passel of people a-tryin’ ta’ tell me whut to do and whut NOT to do… an it’s gitting tiresome – you betcha!

Anyway… you listen to what’s goin’ on today… and drop me an e-mail (address is at the bottom of the page)… or send me a note… and we’ll talk about it some more… Because – I think it was Patrick Henry (another Virginian) who said “Eternal Vigilence is the price of Liberty.”  If it wasn’t him… I’m sure he *would* have said it if he’d had the chance.

It’s just hard to fathom the depth of history around these parts where this station is heard…. And where these people grew up and made this land. Lets do the best we can under the grace of the Lord to do what HE says… and mind HIS book… and be taken home some day to BE with HIM…it’s important… not *just* interesting.

God bless you all today… Join us again tomorrow.

            Cordially, IN HIM

“JUST A MINUTE”

WHEN THE PARTY’S OVER – SOME SWITCH PARTIES

Just a Minute: John Fund, lead writer for Opinion Journal, – notes last month's election increased GOP strength in the states. He declares it the largest number of Republican state legislators since 1928.

Newly-minted Republicans now realize to stay in the majority they’ve got to cross the aisle.  Fund counts a dozen or more who already see their future is under the Republican flag. Many say this means the Democrat agenda is not popular at the grass roots.

Next month, legislators meet and will decide their bread is buttered on the GOP side. It’s not just happening in the South.  Maine has a second term member who joined the –now- majority GOP.  Alabama counts four Democrats switching when it became evident Republicans can pass legislation without consulting Democrats. Same story goes for Georgia and Louisiana where they call it the end of the two party system.

So, if you’re going to be in on redistricting you’ll probably need to be a Republican.  – Welcome news to GOP ears.
